He needs to be at the very top of the list for the HC position.
The DET offensive coordinator and play caller started to get league interest last year and with what he's accomplishing in DET again this year, he will be among the very hottest commodities in the league. But, we might be a really good situation for him?
No more retread coaches and even if DA has done a more-than-fine job with the defense, we need a young offensive minded leader imo.

The only concern I have with BJ is would he know how to create a balance team? Sure this dude knows offense. I see a lot of similarities with him, like a young SP. Super creative, gutsy playcalling, and has the tendency to get too “cute” with calls at times. However, SP (in his early days with us), didn’t even try to field a competent defense. He was so bad at it, that he sought out Greg Williams, told him he wanted a “nasty” defense, while agreeing to be hands off. I would be willing to see what he has to offer bc what we have now is not it.

We are not going to fire DA at the end of the season, but best believe Carmicheal is going to take a demotion so Ben Johnson is off the list, but if we do fire DA, he would be my top choice.

Only if we would also bring in someone like Rex Ryan or some other defensive minded guy to handle the defense and also be a crutch for BJ to lean on for advice.

I think Rex has been out of the game a bit too long.

But your larger point is important. Sean Payton without Dennis Allen was perennially hovering around .500.

Rex is the first one that comes to mind for me because he’s currently available and has HC experience. I also believe Staley will likely be fired after this season, he’s a good defensive mind thay could keep us top tier.

Whoever runs defense I really believe we need to switch to a 3-4. Cam and Bresee at DE, rotate Saunders and Foskey with them. Roach and Shepard can handle the NT. That should help Cam more as he continues to age, or move him inside to DT if we keep 4-3.

Ben Johnson would be at the top of my list too. He's been 3-0 this season against our NFC South opponents. I know he's not the HC but his playcalling looked great from what I saw against Tampa this past Sunday. Much better than ours a couple of weeks ago!

The Lions were on Hard Knocks last year, and so it gave a decent look at Ben Johnson behind the scenes. He definitely is the brains behind that offense, but also carries himself really well among the players. He seems to have the leadership chops yet also knows the X's & O's. Someone's going to scoop him up sooner rather than later.

I'm going to be watching more of his videos here soon if we don't start winning! I've watched a few already. It's easy to compare every young, creative offensive play caller the next Mcvay/Shanahan now and I wont do that but he seems like he could be on that trajectory. We missed out on Mike Mcdaniel in 2022, if it doesn't work out this year we need to go after one of these younger offensive minds. Seems to be the way to go! Even in 2024 we should still potentially be one of the highest sought after HC jobs. If he can get Jared Goff to ball I believe he could get Carr to as well.

Ben Johnson will be at the top of every team’s list that is searching for a new HC next offseason. He will get to pick where he wants to go… and it won’t be New Orleans.
He’d be a fool to choose a team saddled with terrible contracts, a regressing QB, and aging leadership.

I will say this, Ben Johnson deciding to stay with the Lions dramatically changed head coaching searches this last offseason.

Would be hilarious if he did it again this offseason, but I think the money he's going to get offered if the Lions keep this up is going to be way too much to turn down.

If Gayle can pay Carr 60 million in total money just for this year, Im sure she could more than afford Ben Johnson! Money talks. Some of our core guys are getting older, can't deny that but theres still a ton of talent on this team beyond those guys. The problem is horrendus play calling

Yes he will be at the top of the list for every team replacing their HC. But , all most all of those teams will be in worse shape than us. DC is way better than Goff was when Johnson got a hold of him. We have a very good complement of skilled O players. Yes our OL needs work but I think most of that is a POOR OL coach in Marrone. We also have a top 5 D. a couple players are getting up there but the nucleus is young if we finish bad enough for fire DA will have pretty good draft capitol . BJ could most certainly do worse
