N/S Ben Johnson (2 Viewers)

We have a turn key team for the right coach but the door is starting to swing close on out on our cornerstone players. It needs to happen at the seasons end. No more fooling around. This experiment is over whether Mickey admits it or not.

Yes he will be at the top of the list for every team replacing their HC. But , all most all of those teams will be in worse shape than us. DC is way better than Goff was when Johnson got a hold of him. We have a very good complement of skilled O players. Yes our OL needs work but I think most of that is a POOR OL coach in Marrone. We also have a top 5 D. a couple players are getting up there but the nucleus is young if we finish bad enough for fire DA will have pretty good draft capitol . BJ could most certainly do worse

We can right a wrong (not going with Dan Campbell) and take his top man and offensive play caller.
Ben Johnson is gonna have his pick, but we may be seen as a good fit by him...

I can't imagine we would be at the top of his list with Derek Carr locked onto this roster.

Carr is way better than Goff was at the time Johnson started working with him. I’m sure he wouldn’t look at it the way you are, however; I doubt we get the chance to ever know bc DA will likely be our coach 🤮

Agree, except everyone always saying we passed on Campbell for Allen. That’s not true. Payton was still HC when Dan Campbell signed with the Lions in 2021…

Rex is the first one that comes to mind for me because he’s currently available and has HC experience. I also believe Staley will likely be fired after this season, he’s a good defensive mind thay could keep us top tier.

Whoever runs defense I really believe we need to switch to a 3-4. Cam and Bresee at DE, rotate Saunders and Foskey with them. Roach and Shepard can handle the NT. That should help Cam more as he continues to age, or move him inside to DT if we keep 4-3.
Cam needs to play inside on passing down. Not getting it done on the outside any more. It seems like we are relying too much on past accomplishments rather then current abilities. I am talking about Cam, Honey Badger, Mayes. These guys are playing slow and not gettin the job done. Time to give some of the younger guys more playing time.

So the Saints gave themselves an exit ramp here in 2025. If Carr declines and doesn’t perform as hoped, they can release him after two years and be left a dead money salary cap charge of about $27,100,000 between the guaranteed roster bonus and leftover signing bonus prorations (which accelerate to the year he’s released). There are more factors we don’t know about yet, and they could spread out those dead money costs by designating him a post-June 1 cut, but that’s the gist of it. Hopefully Carr continues to play at a

It's not as bad as I'd originally thought. Still a big cap hit, but it's almost normal for this team.

This is not a top 5 defense. DL is average at best. Granderson needs some help, Cam aging and half step too slow. We only have one LB and he is getting older and has a sore knee. Cornerbacks are top notch but asked to play zone and line up 10 yards off the ball. The safeties are not getting the job done.

When I wrote that we did have a top 5 D But since then DA has become scared and is making them play soft. Rushing mostly 4 and playing zone , which if you can't generate a pass rush will never work. He rarely blitzes and plays too conservative. Rarely has a spy for mobile/running QBs. Johnson would bring in someone to revamp and get them playing up to their potential

This guy is the next young star offensive head coach. Listen to what he says. This is what the Saints need. We should move mountains to replace DA with this dude.

When is the earliest date that teams can seek permission to talk to other team's assistant coaches/coordinators?

Teams that don’t make the playoffs can begin those discussions amongst each other the day after the season ends.

If a team wants an assistant whose team is in the playoffs, they have to wait until that team is eliminated.

These same rules applied to contacting college coaches, although that’s less of a factor now that the NFL regular season pushes two weeks into January. A 12-team CFP might re-complicate things, though.

But you can back channel and talk to their agent anytime, right?

Package a CB, probably Adebo has highest value, plus our 1st to move up to grab the QB the new HC wants. We'll have DC another year. The rookie can sit until probably now next year and Carr will be gone next off-season. Don't give me the we aren't the top destination, money talks.
