Best remaining Offensive Tackles Free agents, 2024 (1 Viewer)

Jason Peters would instantly become the 4th best offensive lineman and the 2nd best OT on the team, even at 42 years old.
Last year would have been a good time to test out Pat Kirwan's idea of bringing in an older LT as your 3rd down specialist. Let Penning develop on 1st and 2nd downs where we have the element of surprise, bring in Peters on third down or when playing from behind to keep your QB on his feet in obvious passing situations.

According to PFF, last year was by far Peters' worst as a pass blocker, and it was also the first time he has played on the right side since 2006. With Fuaga at LT (assuming the back issue is minor), the idea of signing Peters may be a year too late.

I hope we get more depth but I acknowledge that youre always 1 injury away from somebody.

At least are backups are not Daryl Terrell and Victor Riley.

Sadly, I think I might take those two over what we have.

Both are probably still better than Penning. They definitely were in thier prime. At this point we’d be better calling Willie Roaf or Kyle Turley.
I dont know - Victor Riley never seen a flag he didnt like and Daryl wasnt called Turnstyle based on his haircut.

If I had told you, back during the draft, that you have a beautiful body, would you have held it against me?

I would definitely feel better if they signed one of these guys

You must’ve never watched Trevor Penning play. It was funny, OTB broke down his college highlights yesterday morning, and he had exactly one play where he almost executed a proper kick step

Perhaps it would be fun to get a video montage of all 4 to compare side by side - a little light humor.

True, but right now Penning is the unholy child of Riley and Terrell. Hopefully he can figure out how to use the technique he was taught and knows during games, but he's quickly running out of time to do it.

I've posted on the "3rd down pass pro specialist" Pat Kirwan theory in other threads. It hasn't been experimented with, much less caught on as a thing yet, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be a viable option with the right player. It doesn't have to be when playing from behind necessarily. It's definitely an idea to be used in obvious passing situations.

He's 10000 years old and has an injury history that makes Alex Smith look tame.

I could care less if he's older than Methuselah (969). If he can still play better than our current options at RT we just need a one year rental. $1.2 Million for a starting NFL tackle is a steal.

In regard to injuries, the Achiles was 12 years ago, and the Knee was 7 years ago.

Dude hasn't played a full season since the knee injury.
He isn't starter quality anymore and is a shell of his former self.

He only started 3 games since COVID and he was elevated from the Sea hawks practice squad to do so.

Dude, I live in Philadelphia area and have watched this guy for decades literally. At this stage in his career he is a walking injury. He's a HOF LT, but he's a shell of his former self at 42 years old.

I'm not sure that guy would be an upgrade over what we have and he's a LT so it's not really what we need. But, sure, I guess we could take a shot at some LT depth if the price is right.

Beyond that, the article is pure speculation. The guy is 3rd on their depth chart at LT so he could get cut and the Saints need help at Tackle. There is no source or claim in the article that the Saints have shown interest or that the Chiefs are actually looking to trade him.
