Blitzer tells atheist tornado survivor:"You gotta thank the Lord" (2 Viewers)

Stop searching. Life created itself.

I'm kind of stuck on that.

I just don't see how we came from nothing.

I don't necessarily not believe in a god or intelligent creator, I just don't believe that the universe revolves around us. But then again, where would that creator have come from.

Sometimes I feel as if religion is just a.) a way for our ancestors, our deep ancestors, on the other side of the globe, to explain the unexplainable, b.) an ironic attempt to bring order to the world, and c.) a way to comfort ourselves into thinking we're somehow important.

It seems a bit egotistical.

I'm open minded about it, but I don't want to believe in something just because my parents or grandparents say that I am supposed to or because a book that was written on the other side of the globe thousands of years ago tells a story of a person that rose from the dead. I need more evidence than that. I would love to have it and, like many, be comforted.

I went to a catholic high school, went to church growing up with my parents, and heck, I even send my daughter to a Christian elementary school and will allow her to make her own decisions on it. But I just need more.

Then shes not an atheist if she believes in a higher power that dictates when her "time to go" is.
Not neccessarily. "Not your time to go" does not mean its pre-determined at all. It simply means it wasnt the end of her existence. Now whether or not there's a reason it up to you to decipher. Purely by chance do you die in something catasrophic. One person can die by something when the next doesnt which equates to chance.

Nothing to thank, just be happy that your family survived. If god did want to punish people I assume he would have started with the atheists. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

I think you're right, and if they would have stopped at "c", then religion wouldn't be viewed by outsiders in such a negative light.

Problem is, in the past few thousand years, they've added d.) make money e.) control people f.) cover-up atrocities, etc. etc.

Who knows, he might start with the people who eat pork or shrimp/crawfish, people who have tattoos or rounded haircuts, women who speak in church, teh gays etc.

God is mad at a lot people according to the bible, no real way to tell who he's going to start with.

Also, why do we have to thank him? Why is it so wrong to question God in times of extreme loss?

After all, Jesus did it with some of his last words: "my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

I'm kind of surprised the Theist haven't been more vocal
I think it's pretty great when both sides just shut the **** up and carry on living their lives, and not act like because one person expresses their personal belief to a person of opposite belief on a public platform like it is some victory for #teamwhogivesa****.

He's also mad at babies whose parents didn't bring them to get baptized.

Stuff like this is what I don't get.
