A 6th or 7th round rookie would be cheaper and just as effective on the bench.

Quinn would be better than Canfield at least. The Saints will not go with a UDFA as the #2 QB.

Always liked Quinn. Some guys just get clobberedearly and don't find room to recover. I think he could make great progress with Brees and Peyton. Just like i think Jason Campbel could succede if he didn't have 17 different OC and 15 different offensive schemes in 5 years.

Well, we may need someone to do out laundry. Other than that, no thanks.

mbg i Agree......

Thanks, and don't worry if most people dissagree. 60% of this board thought Aaron Brooks was our savior, even after four years of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I tend to think that a good backup is someone who has shown potential but been run through the gauntlet of bad teams and questionable coaching.

Can someone start a list of preferrable backups at a minimal cost?

I would honestly start with Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn, giving Quinn the nodge simply for toughness. I would also mention Campbel again, if only for idea of a stable environemnt for more than one season.
