im not sure if this counts but i didnt see anyone mention fight sports. i know it not a brand name so to speak but rather watch mma over boxing. i mean watching the undercard for a heavyweight boxing event puts me to sleep, but it seems i cant get enough ufc pay per views.

I have nothing against it, I'm sure it's a wonderful reel. I worked behind the reel bar at Academy last summer and totally fell in love with Abu Garci. I got the black Revo low-profile baitcast (and a super nice Castaway rod...love that thing), and a Ambassadeur C5400 barrel baitcast. The 50% employee discount was very nice...and very dangerous:ezbill:

As for Shimano, I liked their spinner reels...and Okuma's, but I didn't particularly care for their baitcasts...except for the $500 Caluctta with the computer chip inside.

Nothing touches Abu when it comes to the round baitcasters. The C5500 is greatness for my swimbaits.

Abu made a giant leap into the market with the Revo but they still need to work on it. If they could make the Revo STX lighter, say like 3 ounces lighter I would take it over any reel on the market. Trimming 3 ounces off a 10 ounce reel is not easy though.

Perhaps we should start a fishing thread:hihi:

Originally when I first started at Academy, I was going to get the Shimano Symmetre (spinner), and then, I decided that we already had enough spinners at the house. It was then that I decided to make the switch to baitcast. I was told that the round baitcasters were easier to learn with, so I got the blue C5400 Ambassadeur and a cheap rod...I loved it.

Then, I started looking at the low profiles. I decided to stick with Abu because everyone I spoke to praised the brand, and I read a very good article about the new Revo series. I liked the way the black one looked and felt, so I got it with a much nicer rod. I haven't had the chance to take it fishing yet (because I was working in Disney), but I can't wait.

So, I'm not an expert on baitcasters by any means...just getting into them. I really want to start bass fishing.

Cigars have huge brand loyalty. I know plenty of guys who will only smoke Fuente, even if most of them taste like bland nothingness (their higher end stuff kicks butt tho).

Same with Rocky Patel's cigars. Or Gurkha (even if the dude who owns the brand doesn't even smoke cigars.. he's a European watch designer who makes pretty boxes and commissions a cigar manufacturer to make cigars that match his boxes).

Then there's the joker who will plunk down 12 bucks for a Dominican Cohiba that is nothing BUT an average cigar. Or the guys who will buy nothing BUT Dominican Montecristos, even if they're nothing like the Cuban brand, and more expensive to boot!

Personally, I mix and match, but I am a huge fan of Don Pepin Garcia. Can't get his smokes locally, but they are the closest thing to Cuban I've found. The Hirsh y Garcia at Cigar King is one of the best non-Cuban cigars I've ever had. They remind me slightly of a Cuban Cohiba Esplendido mixed with a Camacho Diploma.

And yeah, there are HUGE Cuban cigar snobs. Think the Davidoffs you see at da Tinderbox are expensive? Try the Cuban Davidoff and Dunhills... they haven't been made since the late 80s and they go between $70-300 bucks a piece.

Scotch, whiskey, bourbon, and cognac drinkers are also usually pretty brand loyal. I drink Hennessey personally. Smoother than Courvoisier while having a tinge of a peppery bite sometimes. Goes great with my cigars.

I tried Wolverine boots when I started my job last year. They never really worked for me. I tried two different models and just couldn't get a comfortable boot. I switched to Georgia Boot and love them.

After a bunch of different boots I will only wear the wolverines now. I like the hiker style with the new carbon toe and fiberglass shank. Lighter than most work boots and comfy.

To each his own though. I know guys who will only buy redwing.
