Broncos hiring Pete Carmichael (14 Viewers)

I have no proof of anything, but I've had my suspicions that the hierarchy changed quite a bit after Tom Benson died and Payton wasn't down with being so far down the list of people in control. He was used to having near daily interactions with the owner. He obviously didn't have the same history or relationship with Gayle and things went back to norms that most organizations have. The first real grumblings about Payton wanting to leave were around a year after Tom passed away and I don't think it's a coincidence.
It makes a lot of sense

Could it be that Pete is a QB whisperer? He was the QB coach when Drew Brees came to NOLA. For everyone here that has asked for 2 yrs. what would Sean do? Now we see what he thinks of Pete. Not everyone functions best at the next level, but some do very well in their comfort zone. So, we'll see what he can do with Russ should they keep him and if not, what he does with the new kid on the block.

Probably not. More likely, Pete Carmichael was a Drew Brees whisperer. They probably understood each other very well, but Drew wasn’t going to play forever. Between how Sean innovated and Drew executed, Pete filled in a lot of the lines… but Sean also isn’t here anymore. Pete doesn’t have the touch with a second QB, he grew as a coach almost entirely via the specter of Drew. And now we’ll see how he contributes on a different team with a more nebulous title, from afar.

Didn't need to be Mrs Cleo to see that one coming.

I'll say this, this is where Pete should be. Besides someone like Payton touching up the details and breaking down the game plans. One reason I question Mickey and Allen so much is they actually thought that Pete was capable of running an offense without a strong mind like Payton. That is concerning.
Mickey is delusional.

Let’s not forget that SP won 1 SB with Drew Brees. I’d say that’s a bad coach. Better than Dennis Allen but not that great. He honestly needed Gregg Williams help

Carmichael knows how to fix Payton's coffee.

Pete is better off on Denver. He should be happy that he’s out of this regime.

Yup, I don't either, it kind of falls in line with those power struggle type rumors.....that Gayle (or Lausha or whoever is in charge) favored Loomis over CSP.....not saying it's definitely true but it does make sense....

Yes, because it's so easy to win SB's....honestly, you have to be joking, CSP is far and away the best coach that the Saints have ever had....

I think Pete is a good football coach and a very good offensive mind. I just think he was out of his depth having to run the entire show on his own including play calling, game planning, scheme tweaks, self-scouting for tells, new wrinkles each week, etc. With Payton, he will be able to go back to the more limited role that he excelled at. Still, I'm not sure that the scheme isn't a bit outdated or that NFL teams haven't just figured it out unless you have and amazingly accurate HoF QB under center.

Bellicheck won 6 SB's with Brady. Payton won 1 SB with Brees.

Even if you ignore the division New England played in and the bad luck/no calls that prevented the Saints from getting to or winning more SBs. Just because you aren't as good as Bellichick doesn't mean you are a bad head coach. If it did then every coach that coached while Bellichick was in New England is a bad coach.
