C Erik McCoy returned to practice 11/7/24; McCoy designated for return from IR (2 Viewers)

That is what a real coach can do. That is what Sean Payton did here as well.

Here is where the word correlation is gonna come up for the 2nd time in the thread.

I have the suspicion that if McCoy doesn’t go down Carr doesn’t get hurt in KC. McCoy is the lynchpin for the offensive line he calls the protections and really is the second most important part (any center really) of the offense. There is a huge drop off from him to his backup just as there was between Carr and Rattler.

There is also a very impressive gambling stat that shows teams that loose their starting center almost never cover, for what that is worth.

He isn’t going to fix the fact that we have no one to throw passes to. He isn’t going to fix the defense, but what he will do is give Carr more time to decide which worse option is the best option. Maybe, our TE’s will get more involved with a little more time to get open.

Either way getting him back is going to be huge whether that is this week or next it can’t come soon enough.
Exactly and we don't have a drew Brees that can make calls to compensate for a missing center. Hall of fame QB's always make it easier for o lines to perform when the miss integral parts.

I agree McCoy will help Carr out and even if it is like you say the best option of the worst maybe those plays hit in critical times of the game. Well said.

It was the beginning of the end of everything bad this season. If he had not gotten hurt despite all of the other injuries, we still would have won that Philly game and the Falcons game that's my personal feeling. When McCoy went down it was like a chain reaction and then Kubiak couldn't even run his offensive game plans. Also having young QB's while Carr was out would have helped immensely.
Ought to give rattler a game with a running game and a line, not a fair trial

this team took a nose done the minute he got hurt. his injury is the biggest reason we have lost 7 games in a row.

It's definitely the biggest reason why the offense started to become ineffective.
The additional O-line & wide receiver injuries to follow then made the situation much worse.

The defense is still bad, historically bad. The offense is still operating in one dimension. Good to see McCoy back but it not fair to lay the teams demise on his injury alone.

Bad? Maybe. Historically bad? I dont think so. Those years of Jason David being statistically worse than a WR covered by air cone to mind. That defense was BAD.

Teams were challenging Rattler to beat them and committing defenders to the run. On early downs in the first three quarters, the Saints saw a stacked box 9.9% of the time in the first five weeks. That jumped to 22.2% for Rattler's three starts, and dropped to 7.4% against Carr on Sunday.

I'm hoping the coaching shakeup and Young taking over the defensive line will get them playing better, especially against the run. We'll need that because of our depleted secondary. We'll at least start to find out how much was coaching or player ability/inability. Could be both.

and we were hoping he'd rise to the challenge. More defenders in the box means fewer in throwing lanes if you can sort through the traffic, though I wondered why we didn't call a lot of plays that allowed for some easy pitch and catch to get him in a rhythm. I also woudl have liked to see us dial up more shot plays, just to back them off. We seemed like we didn't want to try to go down the field OR perhaps he didn't try, because it's notable that within 15 plays of coming in for Rattler, Haener took a shot down field, and though it was incomplete I was happy to at least see it attempted.
