C Erik McCoy returned to practice 11/7/24; McCoy designated for return from IR (1 Viewer)

Genuinely was not expecting this until after the bye week. I hope he doesn't re-injure himself coming back too fast. But if he's healthy, it should give us a little boost short term and make us a better team long term.

I'm hoping the coaching shakeup and Young taking over the defensive line will get them playing better, especially against the run. We'll need that because of our depleted secondary. We'll at least start to find out how much was coaching or player ability/inability. Could be both.
Mannn I had a theory on that, and Cam confirmed it in his interview.

You know how on madden certain coaches come w/ certain bonuses? Some might give you +2 blk shedding others +2 Awareness or play recognition...

I recall Payton Turner pointing out how Grantham was teaching them to read schemes so they could know how they were going to be attacked. He appeared to be more of a counter puncher. That meant less focus on fundamentals and attacking your man, and more on reading scheme so you can make a play. First thing out of Cams mouth was exactly the above in a sense, that under Young they were getting back to fundamentals and attacking their opponent and less about reading the play.

You know what hilarious about that? Allen talked about being a more attacking defense and having guys get smaller, and yet brought in a coach who literally wasn't about attacking at all. Grantham's new role actually fits his philosophy better, and B Youngs new role should truly help get the most out of the Dline. Just another gaffe that Allen made, and wasn't willing to adjust to.

Meanwhile Rizz coming in and identifying all this stuff and making the appropriate changes and I don't know whether I'm elated or just miffed that Allen, as smart as he is....didn't see these things.

and we were hoping he'd rise to the challenge. More defenders in the box means fewer in throwing lanes if you can sort through the traffic, though I wondered why we didn't call a lot of plays that allowed for some easy pitch and catch to get him in a rhythm. I also woudl have liked to see us dial up more shot plays, just to back them off. We seemed like we didn't want to try to go down the field OR perhaps he didn't try, because it's notable that within 15 plays of coming in for Rattler, Haener took a shot down field, and though it was incomplete I was happy to at least see it attempted.
Haener is definitely more decisive at this point, and I'd even make the controversial take that his timing is better than Carr's. He just doesn't have the arm that Carr does, which helps to clear out the box.

In what might be Olave's last play of the season, Carr stared him down the whole way, giving Olave pretty much no chance against the single high safety. The high throw just made the situation even worse.

That's unfortunate, and exactly why MT went off. I don't agree w/ his actions considering they have a brotherhood, but watching the game live...when that ball was let go and I saw the two defenders, I immediately said "hospital ball" then boom, the collision. I just shook my head.

I think a big part of Allen's downfall is Drinking his own kool aid. He's obviously a great D Coordinator, and has been fielding good defenses so long and got full of himself, and then when he became head coach he thought he was always the smartest person in the room and wouldn't change anything, working or not.

Ought to give rattler a game with a running game and a line, not a fair trial
I agree it wasn't a fair assessment of what he can do as the circumstances were unfair for any QB,, especially a rookie QB. I think we will see what we have in Rattler in the future. You never know the way we seem to get injuries we could see him back again this year. Hopefully not because I don't want any of our players hurt but it would surprise me.

I still think they would go to Rattler if Carr are to be out for any amount of time. DA pulled him because he needed to win that game at any cost so that was the natural thing to do.

Rattler seems like the preferred choice of a coach on his last leg. If it works out, the coach gets credit for bypassing the #2 because of the vision he had for the #3. If it doesn't, he can say the rookie "needs more time to develop" as he did after three losses. He probably didn't think he could win the games anyway, so why not pin it on the rookie QB who almost certainly didn't have a chance--whether we like it or not, he was a fifth round pick for a reason.

Also notice that Rattler, with nearly three full games of extra experience in the offense, was back to the #3 after Carr's return. They thought a guy who only has a couple of drives of regular season action in "garbage time" was the better backup in a game that Allen likely knew he had to win.

Unfortunately for Allen, seven losses in a row were too much for him to blame it on injuries/rookies/etc.

What exact date can McCoy return?
From what I understand he can return anytime

The 21 day practice window

Allows him to practice coming off IR without cutting a player to get down to 53

Technically he is the 54th player on the roster

If after 21 days he can’t continue he has to be cut, back to IR and possibly practice squad with of course going back to IR being only option for him

I think his biggest downfall is he didn't develop as a HC which was what Mickey was attempting to do. I wrote several threads that I felt, if DA gave up playcalling, he could focus on just the HC aspect of working sideline etc. It was something I saw guys do, like I think Nick Sirianni in PHI mentioned being a playcaller and HC is difficult, so he initially took those responsibilities off his plate so he could focus elsewhere.

I figured if DA did that he could narrow his focus and improve, and if the defense ever slipped he could just blame the DC and take the playcalling back over. I thought it was smart, and at least logical. I thought Joe Woods, was the perfect opportunity for him to do that.

Bout to find out in the next few weeks of the starting center going out was the true reason the offense imploded
I think we need to find out how this guy got injured in the first place. I assumed that it was Jaylen Carter caused havoc which caused MCcoy to over extend in some way. Which got him wrecked. But now we’re seeing that there wasn’t a mandatory stretching plan in place. He went out on the 4th play of the game if I recall. Anyone have real info on what really happens to McCoy?

Thanks. Great to know. I didn't know if he had to wait 21 days or what. So, if he doesn't hit the roster during the 21 day window, he is out for the year, or possibly worse. Fingers crossed.

Patrick has been a stud LG for us and he's not going to break the bank.

I'm not sure I'd call him a stud, but he's been solid. Problem is he also gets hurt a lot and at his age (32 next season), that is not likely to change. So, we could use an upgrade at LG that is younger and healthier. He would be really good depth, however, and I think that was the plan for him this year until Salvideri failed to step up and got hurt.

With Rattler going back to 3rd on the depth chart tells you where he stands, and it is where he should be. Haener has more experience, and it shows both are totally different styles of QB. I don't think we have a championship type QB on the roster at all so the search is still on, and the question is do we even have a backup on the roster.
