Chase Young had a neck procedure on 3/21 & will be ready for season; Played through neck stinger all 2023; Saints are comfortable with it (2 Viewers)

Remember when Miami wouldn’t sign a certain injured qb, but we did? Not saying Young will have anything near the same impact as Brees; just pointing out that teams have to evaluate the risks of signing players with injuries all the time, and it can work out for the better if the correct evaluation is made.
You just made me feel better, alot better.

Definitely some inconsistency in the reporting. Im not sure how a 13 million guaranteed contract turned into, the saints "arent on the hook unless he passes a physical before the first game".
That's was in an earlier report I read. You can go argue with the report then.

No, Im just saying, its odd we are discussing a medical procedure of a guy we signed a few days ago. We have injury problems. But signing a guy currently pending a neck procedure, knowing he will be out until sometimes in TC? I wasnt a fan of the signing. I saw the 1 year deal and felt, ok. Not a lot of risk. But he is out until mid TC?
I don't think anyone knows at this point. We'll just have to wait and see. Clearly his agent or whoever talked to him was fudging what the contract details are and the Saints have protected themselves if he can't play.

Boy, it doesn't seem like it exists in the NFL.

I think what can be released is limited by HIPAA but the CBA with the Union allows certain information to be release and the players likely sign some sort of document that gives the team permission to release limited information.

Yeah, like I said, that's one of the detail things that I often miss. I'm still personally a little confused on the use of the word "guaranteed" but that tweet at least shed a little light on why I also saw the word "incentives".

Ah, gotcha.

Just seems like we shouldnt change anything we do in FA, roster moves or the draft based on this signing. If he plays, its lagniappe type of thing. He has missed 24 games in 4 seasons and will go into his 5th TC injured. Sort of the same way Ive viewed Michael Thomas the last 3 years. Plan as if he isnt there, and if he is, great.

Yes, I find it concerning and I didn't say otherwise. I just happen to know a little bit about neck injuries and disc surgeries.

And, when have we ever had a doctor come out and give us a medical brief on a player's injury? They can't do that without permission from the player. HIPAA does still exist.
Pretty sure HIPAA does not apply in the NFL. I don't know if players waive it, or what, but their medical conditions are reported all of the time.

For those who aren’t aware: the cap hit will still likely be close to $13 million for THIS season.

However, anything that Young doesn’t earn will roll over as extra cap space for next season (or beyond).

Any cap space that isn’t used automatically rolls over. So if he plays and balls out? Great. If he doesn’t play? We get that money back to play with next year.

The per game roster bonus, does that mean for every game he misses, his bonus drops by a pro rated amount?

I think by guaranteed, he means that if Chase meets all of these stipulations he's guaranteed that much. Which isn't what guaranteed means. At least I've never seen it explained that way.

I don't disagree that it's not a great situation. But, as has been said several times, the Saints were desperate for a pass rusher so they had to take the chance. If the reports of the per game bonuses and only being on the hook for around $5 million for one year are true then they protected themselves as best they could given how desperate they were for a pass rusher. It's not a great situation, but it's a consequence of missing on Davenport, Turner, and maybe Foskey.

Michael Thomas got a wound/Joint iInfection by Saints clown doctor, that cost him 2 years at least. Just hope Young doesnt get botched surgery

I definitely agree with that. I wasn't expecting him to be signed to begin with. I still would have edge rusher as a draft need and would definitely be on board with drafting another one. I mean, Cam is probably going to retire before long. The more options the merrier.
