Chase Young had a neck procedure on 3/21 & will be ready for season; Played through neck stinger all 2023; Saints are comfortable with it (1 Viewer)

I'm obviously no doctor, but given the type of injury he had and location, I would guess he likely has a bulging or ruptured disc in the neck that is pressing on a nerve. Given that two sets of doctors missed it, I would think it is probably a small bulge that is hard to see. That would likely mean a discectomy or laminectomy which do require small incisions, but neither is what I would call a major surgery. Some can even be done as outpatient surgery. Obviously it's never great to have surgery on the neck but if it's a bulging or even blown disc it's something that is done quite often these days and they have developed less invasive methods that they can sometime use. It all depends on the severity of the bulge or rupture.

Someone stayed at a holiday inn last night. You don’t find it concerning that we are signing players knowing they are currently injured? It’s 1 thing to sign players with an injury history. It’s another to sign players knowing they need surgery or a procedure on their neck.

It’s just absurd to me that a non doctor is giving a medical synopsis of a player we just signed this week.

Yes, I find it concerning and I didn't say otherwise. I just happen to know a little bit about neck injuries and disc surgeries.

And, when have we ever had a doctor come out and give us a medical brief on a player's injury? They can't do that without permission from the player. HIPAA does still exist.

Michael Thomas had a similar "guarantee" on his contract that he didn't collect. He had a $220k per game roster bonus that did not pay out in full (he got $2.2m for ten games instead of the originally reported $3.74m total).
Yeah, that is why the $7.99 million is not guaranteed. Guess the agent was touting his own work. Given the procedure, he may not even get the workout bonus. So, would assume the base of $2.7 million (and obviously the signing bonus of $1.86 million) mean the only guaranteed portion is about $4.56 million.

Definitely some inconsistency in the reporting. Im not sure how a 13 million guaranteed contract turned into, the saints "arent on the hook unless he passes a physical before the first game".
Thanks. I'm def. not a contract/cap person who gets bogged down into all the details, so I wasn't sure if it was just me not knowing how to interpret what was reported at the announcement of the signing.

Boy, it doesn't seem like it exists in the NFL.

Sound like Young's agent was making the deal sound better than it was.
Except if he was blowing smoke up his client's arse, what would be the benefit for an agent to do this?

No, Im just saying, its odd we are discussing a medical procedure of a guy we signed a few days ago. We have injury problems. But signing a guy currently pending a neck procedure, knowing he will be out until sometimes in TC? I wasnt a fan of the signing. I saw the 1 year deal and felt, ok. Not a lot of risk. But he is out until mid TC?
