Chase Young had a neck procedure on 3/21 & will be ready for season; Played through neck stinger all 2023; Saints are comfortable with it (4 Viewers)

I think by guaranteed, he means that if Chase meets all of these stipulations he's guaranteed that much. Which isn't what guaranteed means. At least I've never seen it explained that way.

I feel like Ive been driving around the expressway system in Dallas trying to arrive at that interpretation of 'guaranteed'. I do like that if he doesnt play it builds in some cap space next season when we may have another HC.

For those who aren’t aware: the cap hit will still likely be close to $13 million for THIS season.

However, anything that Young doesn’t earn will roll over as extra cap space for next season (or beyond).

Any cap space that isn’t used automatically rolls over. So if he plays and balls out? Great. If he doesn’t play? We get that money back to play with next year.

That's a really good deal that means he either helps us this year on the field or we get extra cap money next year.

Pretty sure HIPAA does not apply in the NFL. I don't know if players waive it, or what, but their medical conditions are reported all of the time.
Yeah, I know I give specific thought to this during the season more than once. I accepted St. Widge's explanation of there likely being something in the CBA covering this -- cos there just HAS to be because, after all, the de rigueur injury report is mos def medical info. As is the situation here.

It does apply, but yes, there are disclosure rules outlined in the CBA and the NFLPA and NFL have a process for what can and can't be disclosed.

I definitely agree with that. I wasn't expecting him to be signed to begin with. I still would have edge rusher as a draft need and would definitely be on board with drafting another one. I mean, Cam is probably going to retire before long. The more options the merrier.

There were def people waiting for this signing with bated breath (at least in my house, lol), so just based on that, I thought this was going to be only perceived as a good thing. My husband hasn't necessarily articulated to me all his reasons for really wanting this. But, yeah, much as I love me some Cam Jordan, I really expect to see a major decline this year in him for one reason or another. Age is age.

I've always kind of wondered about that stuff. I'm no labor law or NLRA expert, but I think that because of the collective bargaining agreement they can make agreement to release certain information based on the consent of the players. My guess is that each team would likely want a signed authorization giving them permission to release certain information that is likely standard in the NFL. The Feds don't play with HIPAA violations.

Yep. I mean, they do release that information all the time so either the players are specifically consenting or it's part of the CBA. But, HIPAA does apply to union employers, and everyone really, so if it doesn't apply it has to either be because of the CBA, the players sing a release for specific information, or both.

But, I think it's also clear that what the teams can release is very limited. They can say things like knee problem, neck problem, doubtful for this week, but not the specifics. The weird part about all of this is it's really only done because of gambling on the NFL. Fans want to know this kind of stuff, but gamblers and sports books are the only ones who NEED to know.

The per game roster bonus, does that mean for every game he misses, his bonus drops by a pro rated amount?

If it is set up like a traditional per game roster bonus, we would start the year with a cap hit of $7.52m for the roster bonus. If he plays all 17 games, we would get an additional $470k cap hit in 2024 for that 17th game. If he plays fewer than 16 games, we would get a cap credit of $470k/game in 2025.

Except if he was blowing smoke up his client's arse, what would be the benefit for an agent to do this?

He can tell other players that if he got Chase Young $13 million guaranteed when he was scheduled for neck surgery, think how much I can get you? It's all bout marketing and getting more players to sign with you.

I think, (maybe hope?), that this offseason with the bargain signings and not pushing cap money into the next few years (and maybe getting some back on Young) is a sign that Loomis feels like he has given DA the team and coaching staff he asked for so it's time for him to produce on the field or move on. If he produces, great. But, if he doesn't produce, we have more cap flexibility for the next head coach when we can start to move on from older players with a cleaner cap.

I don't know how Loomis sees the DA situation, but my position is that he either wins the Division this year, or loses it with 10 plus wins and a team on the rise, or he should be gone. He has everything he asked for and to the extent there are still holes, they are his own fault.

Thanks, pretty good deal then.
