Chris Olave placed on IR after 2nd concussion in 2024; out at least 4 weeks per Coach Rizzi (1 Viewer)

Look, I know Concussions and CTE are on the forefront but I tend to lean towards the Tua thinking on this. My life is more about providing for my children and children’s children than myself. I’d gladly die to save or advance them substantially. There is danger in everything we do. You think guys on an oil rig should retire because tomorrow they could lose their lives? I’m all for these players doing what they want. I’m pro-choice when it comes to that. In their position I’d play with a broken back for pure love and enjoyment plus the added benefit of generational wealth.

Olave has already earned $16 million. I don’t think his family needs the money

There's a good chance he's done for good unfortunately, hate to see it.
No he is not. Stop saying stuff you have no first hand knowledge of.

I'm glad that he is done for the year though. Keep losing to get that #1 overall pick.

Wonder how your kids would feel about this, and wife, and others in your family.....And the oil rig comparison is way off base.....We are talking about players that have experienced head trauma and most already have earned enough money to provide.....I find this take very short sighted, most kids want their dad around for the long haul.....wonder how Junior Seau or Mike Webster's family felt.....

While I care about my family, the reason I bust my arse daily, they'll be just fine when I leave this world (I hope I've prepared them for it). While I'm going out if I have a chance to give them a life that is easier than the one my dad gave me and his dad gave him all the better. Why isn't an oil rig worker, under water welder, plant worker a good comparison. I worked in the plants for years around chemicals that only God knows what I was exposed to but it paid the bills, put food on the table and if it cost me a couple years of life while doing so, it's just time. Under water welders literally have time taken off their lives every time they go down to do their job. Oil rig workers know that their job is one of the deadliest in the world, Deep sea fishermen see some of the most dangerous conditions known to man but they still get up and get to work. Sorry, while my kids may want me around my job is to provide for them while I'm here and prepare them for life without me. If I've done that, they'll be just fine. My support system is also here for them when I'm gone and I've surrounded myself with family and friends that will honour me with their help and guidance. This world isn't forgiving and if you believe in life after death then you realize this brief time we're here is just that, brief.

Ok, it sounds like you have it all figured out.....I think you may be undervaluing yourself as a father while also underestimating your impact as a parent.....

I just turned 60, my boys, both grown and on their own, still ask my advice and I'm glad I'm here for them.....

I'm betting your kids would feel the same, it's not the same asking friends or uncles of other families.....I think you are grossly underestimating the bond of a good, even decent father with their kids....

Amen. The season is done. No point in him playing. The Saints need to look at other teams practice squads for rookies with potential at WR, TE, S, and CB. Sign them to the 53 and have an in season, live action try out.

He’s more fortunate than most and he’s already got millions in the bank and no children. He’s got his whole life ahead of him, so he needs to think this through at the very least. It’s not like he can’t lead a fulfilling life without football.
Yes, home being a college football and NFL player employment opportunities will always come up. He can probably get a 6 figure salary somewhere

Let Olave play out 2025 of his contract. Then ask the big question: What contract should we offer Olave given his concussions and his top 15-25 WR ranking?

None. I wouldn't extend him. His next concussion will be his 6th and 5th in the NFL. We’ve given out retirement contracts to Cam and DD, the organization needs to put the organization first when it comes to this. If he continues to play, which number concussion is the one that retires him.

His skillset is replaceable.
