Christian McCaffrey or Alvin Kamara ??? (1 Viewer)

Not really, Marshall Faulk blazed that trail years before RB played a down in the NFL.....I think the way CSP used him was "trailblazing" a bit......in the satellite role.....he used AK in a similar fashion.....

I don't think the number of receptions are the factor, plenty of RB's caught 70+ passes prior to RB.....it's the alignment all over the field that was different and that was CSP.....
That’s what i meant really. It wasn’t really the touches that made him different it was the way he was motioned out of the backfield to create favorable matchups. Not just matchups for himself but for everyone else too.

Kamara would be the best RB of all time if he were in San Francisco.

It's all about the system. The raw talent of both is obvious.
This.

Showing my age, but this is like the discussion of who was better back in the 90's, Barry Sanders or Emmit Smith? And of course, everyone said that if Barry had the Cowboys O-line for him, records would be unattainable by anyone after him. Same goes for here. AK would be a monster in the 49ers offense.

Now, for C-Mac, the Panthers died when he left. He WAS their offense.

And for the record, Skip Bayless is an a** clown. He was always a blowhard but when he disrespected Shannon Sharpe about his playing and how Tom Brady was the best, knowing that Skip Bayless couldn't touch Sharpe's athletic skills, well, that just did it for me. He is a gutless fanboy loudmouth. Can't stand him.....

Doesn't matter. This is a Ferrari vs Lambo type argument.
Yeah, I stopped watching press conferences around 2011. I stopped comparing players probably around the same time.

I’m greedy. I want both of these players in my backfield at the same time.

The CMC vs AK debate is whatever, I'm tripping on this CMC is top 3 all time comment lol. That is absurd. I'm trying to think if he's top 10 in just the past three decades. Where does he fit in with these guys?

Barry Sanders
LaDainian Tomlinson
Adrian Peterson
Marshall Faulk
Emmitt Smith
Curtis Martin
Terrell Davis
Edgerrin James
Marshawn Lynch
Shaun Alexander
Thurman Thomas
Jerome Bettis

Those are just some guys off the top of my head. If you want to say that CMC is a better RB for the modern game then okay, that's a debate I guess. But most of those dudes I just listed carried offenses on their backs for years back when football was still a blood sport. And they were getting 30-40 touches a game. People talk about how CMC was overused in Carolina. Those old RBs were absolutely ran into the ground but they stayed healthy for the most part. Workhorses. Warriors.

Curtis Martin…Great mention. He was literally the entire Jets offense for a while.

I’d take Cmac over Kamara every day of the week but I don’t think he’s top 3 all time, don’t even think he’s top ten all time.

Most here will agree with you, due to those rose colored glasses. Nothing wrong with that.
I agree 100 percent . What he did in Carolina was exceptional and to still perform as he is now is impressive, although he has been on a better team the last few years that helps.

Kamara is just a different type of animal and the way he has been used in the second half of his career. Allen hasn't used Alvin correctly he has wasted his talent the last 2 years inmho.

Roger Craig is ahead of Cmac as far as that goes.

I saw somewhere yesterday ( can't remember) , where some sports media guy considered Christian McCaffrey the third best running back of all time.

While I think McCaffrey is an exceptional running back, I would not put him at third. (Sanders, Brown, Payton, Dickerson, Tomlinson come to mind first)

My personal opinion, I actually would take prime Alvin Kamara over prime McCaffrey.

But I am also bias towards Saints players.
So got to ask you guys.

Take off your Saints colored glasses and ask yourself, who you would take?

Both came out the same year, except AK went third round. AK won rookie of the Year

Now having observed both careers for several years. Would you still take AK over McCaffrey?

Would AK do as well in San Francisco with that offense as McCaffrey seems to be doing?

Who would you take for your team ???
Can add Edgerrin James to your list of all-time backs 😊

McCaffrey just won a rushing title. It;s hard to pick against him right now.

I would take McCaffery although no way is the top 10 all time at the moment

I watched Craig...a lot. Sorry, but CMac is better. Craig was no slouch and a top tier RB, but not quite on CMac's level.

That said, it's hard to compare backs from a generation or 2 ago. The offenses are just different now.

I know we want to block him from our mind, but you can't have a top 10 list without OJ Simpson. His 1973 season is arguably the greatest running back season of all time.

I don’t think anyone could objectively say that today Mcaffrey is not significantly better than AK. You can thank DA and PC for that!

There are over 50 running backs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I realize that McCaffrey's career is not over. Among those in Canton who played before I was born were great players like Bronko Nagurski, Ernie Nevers, Red Grange, Jim Thorpe, Marion Motley, and Steve van Buren.

But before anyone calls McCaffrey one of three or even 10 best running backs ever, consider the following:
--Jim Brown
--Walter Payton
--Gale Sayers
--Marshall Faulk
--Barry Sanders
--O. J. Simpson
--Emmitt Smith
--Earl Campbell
--LaDainian Tomlinson
--Lenny Moore
--Franco Harris
--Jerome Bettis
--Marcus Allen

And then there are John Riggins, Joe Perry, Thurman Thomas, Terrell Davis, Curtis Martin, Ollie Matson, Leroy Kelly, John Henry Johnson, and others in Canton.
