Christian McCaffrey or Alvin Kamara ??? (2 Viewers)

So much of a running back’s production is dependent on the offensive line. Just look at Jamal Williams who led the league in TDs behind the Lions oline last year. This year he had one ‘touchdown’. Who knows what Cmac would do behind the Saints o line and how AK would do in San Fran.

Both really good, neither top 3 or 5, and as for comparison of the two, also dang close. However, CMac now plays for a far superior offensive team/offensive line. I think if they swapped teams, you would see similar production.

It's pretty clear the script would be flipped. AK would be a monster like CMac is in that offense and CMac would get his, but not anywhere near what he's doing in SF.

That said, I think it's pretty clear CMac is better right now than AK, and it's really not all that close. Over the course of their careers, it's a coin flip.

Carolina took years off of CMac's career running him the way they did, which was just stupid. That said, he's managed to stay healthy with a more prudent number of touches at SF. AK hasn't been quite the same the last couple of seasons after his injuries.

Cmac has better blocking WRs as well. That's the 49er way. His TE is more of a receiving threat. Better play calling offers more space for him to roll with, etc

Regarding the script would've been flipped had they traded places...wouldn't a far superior Cmac be able to contend for MVP while with the Saints?

I won't be upset if Kamara gets traded to a better situation.

Kamara was better early on: we all know how he made 10-15 yards runs and TDs out of literally nothing, breaking 4 tackles.
Now he’s not the same player.

more so than injuries, i think the offense has changed a lot under DA and it’s hurting Kamara’s production the most. he’s taken off the field way too often, and when he’s in it seems like defenses are tipped off to what he’s going to do.

That may be part of it, but I'm not really seeing that extra burst he had previously. CMac on the other hand clearly has it.

He seemed visibly frustrated most of the season and some of his comments about the play calling may have had him in the dog house with DA a little. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is traded. Hopefully we do good by him and trade him to a good team if that happens.

Allen, Faulk, even Reg I consider better.

Faulk is in my top 5 all time, as an all around back, running/receiving/pass pro I think he was the best in the last 30 years....insanely productive....

Reggie Bush? Laughable.....he's not even in the conversation....(don't get me wrong, I loved him here).....just over 9,000 combined rushing/receiving yards in an 11 year career.....

In his first 7 years, AK already has over 10,000 combined yards.....

More importantly, AK has way better vision, is more elusive and is the far better inside runner than Reg.....

Reg, is slightly more athletic, straight line speed wise....that's about it.....

Yep, as much as I loved Reggie, and he was a ton of fun to watch, he's not even a top 50 RB. I mean, there are a handful of Saints rbs ahead of him career wise. He shouldn't be in this conversation. Both AK and CMac are miles better. If anything, CMac is what Reggie was supposed to be.

Stats aside, Reggie was a trailblazer at his position and created a blueprint that benefited running backs like AK . There weren’t too many RBs in the league that would catch 80-90 passes until Bush did it his rookie year.

I loved RB as a player because he was the exact opposite of what I thought he would be.....for a guy that rarely had to pass protect in college, he got very good at it, very quickly.....people always look at the rush/rec yards (as I did earlier - guilty) but there are a number of backs who stick around because of both receiving skills and pass pro.....RB and the other Faulk (Kevin) are good examples IMO.....

I admit I have a huge Reg bias, just on the wow factor. Marcus Allen was a heck of a dual threat in his prime, and LT was a pretty good all-around back too. I think Faulk is the prototype for the modern era. I think AK is more talented than CMAC but he hasn't had those weapons like Chris has now.

Agreed on his pass blocking. It's pretty clear he did his homework and understood blocking assignments. I'd laugh when another one of the RBs would spell Bush and completely whiff on their blocks and Payton would flip out on the sidelines. Bush did a lot of things well, but it took him a few years to really get some traction as a go to RB.

Not really, Marshall Faulk blazed that trail years before RB played a down in the NFL.....I think the way CSP used him was "trailblazing" a bit......in the satellite role.....he used AK in a similar fashion.....

I don't think the number of receptions are the factor, plenty of RB's caught 70+ passes prior to RB.....it's the alignment all over the field that was different and that was CSP.....
