Cleveland State Debate tonight... (1 Viewer)

Judging by her performance and body lanugage tonight, I would say Hillary is in this until the bitter end. Get ready, Dems: The 2008 Democratic National Convention will become the Mile High Massacre.

As an Ohio voter, I really got very little out of these two tonight. End NAFTA? Then what? How exactly are they going to help stricken states like Ohio? Healthcare? are you kidding me? Ive been hearing that song since bill clinton's first run.

I realize ya'll are smitten by his orating skills, but I see him as somewhat smug, dismissive, and as someone said earlier "I see what your saying and heres where your wrong, its ok, not your fault" etc.

Whats the deal with him and farakhan? did he take money from that dude, yet denounce him for his anti semetic views? If so, major point loss with me.

This isnt to say I am enamored with Clinton, far from it, She was really trying to control the tone of the debate and failed on almost all accounts, and many times appeared to be overly energetic, scrambling almost. Obama beat her silly with form and function.

I dont think Ohio is all locked up for Obama as some of you may think, but we shall see.

I think McCain will handle him fairly well in dabates, should it come to that.

Re Begala, et al, these clowns are on the payroll, and they won't be paid unless they play according to script.

I'm sure that SaintsReport would have no problems holding a fundraising drive for the site that involves you posting a Youtube vid of yourself singing "Smooth Operator" if they reach a certain threshold! :9:

Do you take requests?

No, my singing voice makes dogs howl for blocks around. :mwink:

Both candidates tonight confirmed what I'd suspected all along. This posturing about "bringing the troops home" is purely that, posturing.

Both of them essentially said they'd come up with an immediate plan for withdrawal and then tailor that to the situation and our strategic and national interests.

Anybody have any doubts about how that'll turn out? :mwink:

Peas in a pod and we get the exact same outcome, no matter who we elect.

Has a charismatic and articulate presidential candidate ever lost an election? I don't think McCain has a chance unless he is holding a few cards up his sleave.

DavidM you have a good point but on the war i find that the media distorts it and when these guys debate i hope they have the same ideas.

I think McCain meant about staying a 100 years is in a base not waging war for 100 years but if he thinks people will want to spend money to fight for 100 years then he is beyond crazy. i think Obama and McCain and Hillary want the same thing. i think they want a stable self sufficient iraq once achieved, we are out of there. I think thats what the surge was and will be the keynote when talking to the iraqi people. I just think we are over there whether it is oil or not we cant let that region fall into peoples hands who want to hurt america economically. whether it is Iran or some sort of other influence. i think once we believe we achieved that we are gone and i think all three want this.

the illusion to me is how democrats say lets leave lets leave and republicans say stay. both parties i think want peace in that region thats all. i think if mccain says that it might shock people which will make it a close presidential race. i have heard from military people that McCain is a jerk and has a huge ego so i am on the fence with this one. i just hope we stop spending money. :)

Both men work hard to exude an air of decorum about them. Gentlemanly, well-spoken, well-versed in the facts. I'd personally like to see that matchup.

I'm still watching on DVR. Had to go get my daughter from Rainbow Girls.

This is an absolute blood letting. I can't believe I was scared for him to debate her too much.

She'll still win Ohio but I think this complete beat down may give him just the edge he needs in Texas.

She is coming off as desperate and incredibly petty. It's amazing to watch this complete implosion by her.

City, Obama is the better speaker. thats not debatable and I admire him for it. but McCain is from a different background and a different audience. Its like I told philip, McCain is a Bum Phillips type speaker. He has that folksy down home approach where as Obama's style of more polished, more refined. Its contrasting styles but its effective if you use it the right way.
It will be a good thing to see for this country, I think we have come a long way to have a minority candidate get this far to become the top guy in charge. It really speaks well for this country, even if he doesn't win.

Watching Hillary tonight, I was reminded of David Brock's American Spectator article profiling the Clintons of Arkansas.

"I want the ---- flag run up the ------ flagpole at ----- sunrise!"

I'm going to miss that.

Well, no way he meant waging war for that long. Nevermind it wouldn't be necessary, the insurmountable cost and the message that interpretation would send -- that the U.S. couldn't finish them off in 100 years -- preclude that from being what he meant. But that's not really the issue either. I don't think most Americans want to be there for another year, let alone 5 or 100. The Bush administration has handled it so poorly that public support isn't there anymore. That matters most in an election.

McCain is going to have to either completely sell voters on why we must stay indefinitely even though it's such an unpopular idea, or establish a passable timetable to hand over control to the Iraqis and convince voters he'll stick to it -- with U.S. presence being limited to a strategic involvement (establishment and operation of bases) and not actively fighting.

Dave, McCain is not stupid, he knows that Iraq is going to have to end sooner or later. He has said in the past that it was a travesty to do it and I think made an off hand comment that Iraq would determine who got elected. So he knows its a factor. He knows its important. I like the 2008 election because it has two guys who have in principle agreements on some things. they are not that far apart on some issues. McCain is a moderate Republican, so its possible he can reach across the aisle and convince some people on the fence

What the hell is 'Rainbow Girls'?? :dunno: ... Never mind, I don't want to know.......

From a contestant standpoint, agreed, In fact, I think it would be one of he best matchups in ages, debate wise.
