Comic Book Talk (3 Viewers)

NEW YORK (AP) — A particularly prized copy of the first-ever Marvel comic book fetched more than $2.4 million in an online auction, the auctioneer said Friday.

Known as the Marvel Comics #1 “pay copy,” it’s “arguably one of the top three comic books in the world of comics collecting,” said Vincent Zurzolo, chief operating officer of ComicConnect. The New York-based auctioneer sold the book Thursday night for a bit under $2,427,800.

The buyer’s name has not been disclosed. He is “an extremely passionate comic book collector and investor” who also collects other items, Zurzolo said.

Published in 1939, Marvel Comics #1 introduced characters including Sub-Mariner and the original Human Torch, a precursor of the character of the same name that was later a member of Marvel’s Fantastic Four. The book launched what became the Marvel universe of comics, movies, TV shows and video games…….

Dammit. While his art as of late hasn't been great, he was a pioneer for the industry and another great lost considering his contributions.

I honestly didn't realize he was that old. RIP

So, any chance Marvel can now undo One More Day? Asking for Spider-Man fans everywhere...

Worst story forever. I never forgave them for that. Honestly, One more day was what made me stop collecting comics, and I just focused on MCU from that point on.

I met him at Baltimore Comic Con last year in a private Q & A panel. I had a two-part question:

1. What's your one regret, and...

2. Why is it One More Day?

The audience loved the question. Him, not so much. But he needed to hear it from me. I stopped reading ASM for years after that crap.

Typical response... No regrets about anything. He knows some folks don't like certain parts of stories, but it falls within a bigger picture.

I kinda felt dumber after that response cuz it made no sense with a story that's pretty much universally hated.

It totally went against Peter's character. No way Peter makes a deal with the devil. Just because he didn't want Spidey to be married.

I hated that stupid story. I was more interested to explore his new powers after The Other storyline.
I mean, the story was so damn terrible that I remember reading even J. Michael Straczynski had issues with it.
