That's a disappointing loss. I sure hope, for the sake of this con, that they can hold it together. After the debacle of the last minute con date, they wouldn't be able to survive.

On the one hand cancellations are a normal part of cons. But I do feel like BEC is under more pressure to deliver after the last minute date move and they can ill afford too many of these from a PR standpoint.

Yep. With any and all cancellations, people are going to get that creeping thought in their head of, "Hmmm, I wonder if this is about to collapse?" I know that thought popped into my head, at least toward the back of my mind.

There was already some grumbling on their Facebook about it. And people complaining that John Barrowman and the Karate Kid cast were never reannounced, as well. And I read an interview with the guy in charge where he basically admitted the date change had harmed people's trust in a brand new con and they had work to do to reestablish it and be careful going forward.

This is definetly one of the more unique situations I've seen with a con over the years.

After Robert Englund, the Karate Kid cast was the big draw for me. With Englund unable to come in November and no sign of the Karate Kid cast, my interest is way down. There's still some people I wouldn't mind seeing, but the attraction isn't quite the same for me at this point. I'm very "meh" about it, unfortunately.

Based on everything I've seen/read, I do believe they are honest in their reasons for switching (adding a third day, being able to get some bigger guests like Anthony Mackie that they couldn't at the original date, etc.), but even months later and with most of the guests added back and some good news ones added as well, I still feel like it was just such a bizarre move to cancel and reschedule mere weeks out from the original date. Run your first show, build some loyalty, and then worry about bigger guests and more days the next year. We'll see how it all plays out, I guess, but I just feel like they created unnecessary pressure on themselves for a first year convention by doing what they did.

So BEC has posted their artist alley and exhibitors lineup. With the exception of the announced guests, I'm less than impressed to say the truth. It looks no better than something the level of Louisiana Comic Con. The New Orleans Public Library? Really? Meh.

This is the kind of thing I've been worried about. After the cancellation and the departure of Robert Englund and the Karate Kid cast, my desire to attend went way down. I think I'm going to pass on it and see how things shake out with this first year. Might turn out fantastic, but my Peter Tingle is going off.

Don't know, but it's an excellent lead off announcement. I'm hoping that they're starting to make that "next step" in the con level. We're gonna get to talk to Batman! I can't wait to hear him speak.

Anthony Mackie (and Kel Mitchell if you care) cancelled on Big Easy Con.

This thing is a mess. I think I've decided to skip for several reasons.

Yikes. This thing is going to crash and burn. They should have never canceled the earlier show.

Yeah. Wish I had gotten a refund after the cancellation in June. I know it's a part of the con business but I think this, combined with cancelling the June show has ruined things too much.
