Could Kingsbury replicate his offense with Spencer Rattler? (28 Viewers)

If I knew that Glenn would come in and be a CEO coach that hired a DC that would run the defense and call plays, I'd like him more, although not more than McCarthy. But I'm not sure if he is going to do that.

That’s tough because then you end up in the Dan Campbell situation where he had to deal with both coordinators interviewing for jobs during the playoffs and now he has to replace both coordinators. I want to stay away from that.

It's certainly not my preference, but I guess Glenn could take over the defense if he can't find the DC he wanted. I just wish Glenn coached the offensive side of the ball.

Exactly...we need an offensive minded HC that owns the system. He can farm out playcalling to the OC to build their profile for their own advancement but the system needs to be his.

Otherwise you're walking right into an Ed Ogeron @ LSU situation and once the actual coaching talent leaves you're screwed

Rattler is the backup. I don't see this team spending a bunch of money on a vet QB as a backup.

There is a 100% chance Rattler is on the roster next year. There is no reason he would not be unless they take a QB in the first round which seems really unlikely.
Jake is out.

He shows flashes, and I get that, but the odds that a fifth-round guy will turn into a franchise quarterback or even a solid backup are quite low.
Odds are low but there are plenty of examples of solid QBs that have come from mid and later rounds.

Is Rattler that guy - doubt it. Though, a little spark of hope goes a long way around here. Heck, plenty on here were overly excited after our first two offensive showings of the year.

Some not to distant examples of reasonable talent...
  • Rich Gannon (4th)
  • Fitzmagick (7th)
  • Romo (UDFA)
  • Bulger (6th)
  • Hassleback (6th)
  • Brunell (5th)
  • Cousins (4th)
  • Dak (4th)
That being said I fully expect are QB for next year to be Carr (provided he is healthy).

Yep. I believe if Burrow and Brady didn’t come along when they did O would’ve been fired and not gotten that big extension.

Times have changed. QBs are getting over drafted now. How many you got in the last decade? Purdy and who else?

I'd love to see what Kingsbury could do with Rattler, or any young QB we draft over the next 2 years.

McCarthy is high on my list, but I have Kingsbury equally as high. Something about the guy, I get the feeling that he's learned a ton from his struggles in Arizona and Dan Quinn was the perfect coach for him to learn from in regards to setting the right culture.
The quarterback list he’s coached is pretty impressive: Mahomes, Caleb Williams, Baker, Murray, Daniels, not a bad list.

True, they certainly are takling lots in round 1.

Although because of that overdrafting in round1, there isnt necessarily a large distinction between Rattler drafted in the 2nd or Rattler drafted in the 5th as there were no QBs drafted in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Dak 8th QB selected in his draft class, Rattler 7th in his.

Nonetheless, Im not going to make an argument for Rattler when Carr will do just fine for the position we are in.

Dak was such a better player as a rookie. We’re talking a guy who threw 23 TDs and 4 INTs vs. a guy who threw 4 TDs and 5 INTs. But even with what Dak is he isn’t good enough. Neither is Purdy. You can win with them but you won’t win because of them. And if you can’t win because of them, they aren’t worth the big money. So I think if the 49ers pay Purdy top dollar it will be a big mistake.

Unless he gets beat out for third string. I think Carr is locked in as the starter. A new coach will likely bring in a young qb he thinks can push Carr and he’ll have other including Haener and Rattler fighting for the third spot. Rattlers not a lock to win that spot. No one is safe after a handful of starters, like Kamara and a couple and a few others.

You’d think Rattler played well by reading some of these threads. You can’t recreate any offense around a 5th round pick that looks exactly like a 5th round pick.
