Could Kingsbury replicate his offense with Spencer Rattler? (22 Viewers)

It's not hope in a 5th round pick. It's hope in what he did on the field in the last few games and how he improved over his first few starts. I don't think he will be ready next year and Carr gives you the best chance to win next year, but I also think it would be good to move past Carr now, see what we have in Rattler, and then if he isn't him, we can draft a QB in 2026.

I don't think you're going to find a coach that wants to put his career in the hands of a 5th round pick that threw 4 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in 7 games last year. We're either going with a vet (likely Carr), drafting a QB high, or both.

But if we were looking for a coach that may do it I would say Kingsbury would be most likely. I don't think we're waiting on him though. I think we're hiring McCarthy or Glenn this week. And I think both will want to go with Carr.

I think the opposite. I don't think Carr is a selling point for any HC. I would have to imagine that most candidates want to start their regime here with a fresh QB. No one wants to build around Carr, and starting him will win you enough games just to have a middle of the pack pick, stunting your ability to draft one of the drafts top QB's.

If I'm positioning myself for this job, I'm saying that we see what Rattler has for a season, and if he doesn't have it, I want to to find my guy in 2026.

Not biting your head off but there is zero that Daniels and Rattler have in common. One is generational one is not, at all lol.

No matter what his agents who post here type. 😂

Anybody that doesn't go with the best player available probably shouldn't be HC. And right now, that's Carr. But a HC does need to have a plan for after Carr. That could certainly be Rattler.

Before I get my head bit off, Am I saying that Jayden Daniels and Spencer Rattler are the same QB?

Heck, No!!

Any OC would look like a genius with JD running your offense.

But, I got to thinking.

I don't expect Kingsbury to get the job, but if he blew them away in interviews, could he replicate his offensive success with Spencer Rattler?

I realize it would take 2-3 years to get all the pieces in place.

Discuss.

Potentially, though Daniel’s shows a certain poise in his decision making that Rattler doesn’t.

Daniel’s is the perfect QB for a defensive minded HC. Rattler is a gun slinger, more Favre than Brady. Those types drive defensive coaches crazy because they’re turnover prone.

Rattler is aggressive and would do better w/ an offensive minded coach that won’t try to reel him in

I think they’ll think they can win with him now and still build for the future. I don’t think anyone wants to come in here, start rattler, and win 2 games next year…then have fans calling for them to be fired after year two.

He shows flashes, and I get that, but the odds that a fifth-round guy will turn into a franchise quarterback or even a solid backup are quite low. The pragmatic route is to go with Carr and look for a quarterback in the first round in 2026. Every guy in the NFL has potential, but this fantasy that a mid-round guy will be elite just because he was a top recruit in high school is unrealistic.

If you keep car, you might win six or seven games next year and then you’ll have the 14th to 17th pick in the first round. The price to move up from 14 to get a franchise quarterback you’ll lose multiple first round picks whereas if you keep and play rattler And win three or four games and pick in the top five you keep all your future draft picks and get the franchise quarterback then you’ll also know what you have in rattler and the following year 26 you can get rid of the rest of the old people and ready to build for the future

And if the next coach wants to go with Carr that's fine. I'm just saying what my preference would be. I can certainly understand why a coach would prefer to keep Carr and see if Rattler can beat him out in camp next year and start Carr is he doesn't. And frankly, if he can't beat out Carr in camp next year, you probably know he isn't the guy.

I do think McCarthy and Glenn are their top two targets. Not sure which is first or second, but I would prefer McCarthy of the two. And given that Johnson took the Chicago job, I think it's likely McCarthy ends up here.

Yeah it’s definitely McCarthy for me. I know he’ll have offense covered. And I feel confident he’ll get us a good DC. With Glenn it’s all going to be scary to me.

There is no chance any new coach will play Rattler unless the starter and backup are both out. I don’t think he’ll be on the roster next season.

Carr is the pragmatic route and probably what a HC would want.

As far as Rattler, I think he showed he has everything you need to be very good. He needs to work on his ball placement and timing. And he also needs to learn not to put the ball in bad situations when pressing, but the only way to really improve on those things is to play. I'm not sure he will be good, but he has a much better shot at it than Haener. And, the only way to find out is for him to play.

And as someone already pointed out, playing Carr probably means you win too many games to be in position to draft a QB in 2026. If that means playoffs, then great. but if that means 7 or 8 wins, it's not a great position to be in.

At any rate, the next HC is going to have to figure out what to do long term at QB. Whether you think he's terrible or good, he's not going to be the long term answer given his age.

If I knew that Glenn would come in and be a CEO coach that hired a DC that would run the defense and call plays, I'd like him more, although not more than McCarthy. But I'm not sure if he is going to do that.

Rattler is the backup. I don't see this team spending a bunch of money on a vet QB as a backup.

There is a 100% chance Rattler is on the roster next year. There is no reason he would not be unless they take a QB in the first round which seems really unlikely.
