Could Kingsbury replicate his offense with Spencer Rattler? (81 Viewers)

I think you can expect him to be with the Vikings as the new Darnold. But what’s your plan there? Eat 50mil on Carr and somehow come up with 10mil to give jones on top of that? Carr is the better QB when healthy and we will go with him for another year long long long before we eat 50 mil and come up with more money for jones.
So it’s a lie that we would have a 1.5 million hit this year and 28 million next year if you designate him as a 6-1 cut?

You would have to carry a full 50mil hit until June 1st then he would count 21.5mil this year and we would save 30mil. 30 mil that you can't spend until summer when the money is already spent. We can save that 30mil now with a restructure.

The real savings in the June 1st deal would be next year. Next year he would only count 11.5 with the June 1st deal. What we will likely do is a restructure which saves us the 30mil now. Then we have the option of making him a regular cut next year for like....right now it would be 28mil on a regular cut next year but I think with the restructure it might be 35. But our cap situation should be better next year. It'll be a lot easier to eat 35 next year than 50 this year.

If we do a max restructure on his deal, his dead cap hit in 2026 grows to $60m.

We don’t get to split that amongst his void years? I believe he has four years with those. That’s why I’m figuring about 7mil/year tacked on to what he has now.

All the void year cap hits accelerate into the year he is released, unless we do a post June 1 cut that year (which would give us a similar scenario to what we are considering this year).

I'd love to see what Kingsbury could do with Rattler, or any young QB we draft over the next 2 years.

McCarthy is high on my list, but I have Kingsbury equally as high. Something about the guy, I get the feeling that he's learned a ton from his struggles in Arizona and Dan Quinn was the perfect coach for him to learn from in regards to setting the right culture.

I can't believe so many people put hope in a 5th round pick. We reek of desperation.

Man, I don't think I've seen anything outside of negativity from your posts over the past several weeks.

The truth hurts, we are in bad shape. You disagree?

That would be the worst possible thing the front office could do. I prefer we do what we have to do to move on from his contract and start Rattler with a new offensive minded HC.

I've been saying we're in bad shape for a while now. I still think it's fine for fans to be excited about potential coaches, or any young player on our roster. I don't see anyone crowning Rattler as the next Mahomes. He's a young developmental QB and it would be outstanding if he developed into a stud. There's nothing wrong with seeing potential and hoping a player blooms.

Even if it's a low chance that he develops, it's a lot more interesting of a discussion than the alternative of an 8-9/9-8 ceiling that historically comes with Derek Carr.

Even if that's the case our cap position is going to be better next year. We started the season like 90mil over the cap for this year. That won't be the case for next year. We're like 50mil under. That will change, but not by 140mil.

It's not hope in a 5th round pick. It's hope in what he did on the field in the last few games and how he improved over his first few starts. I don't think he will be ready next year and Carr gives you the best chance to win next year, but I also think it would be good to move past Carr now, see what we have in Rattler, and then if he isn't him, we can draft a QB in 2026.

We should be in better shape, but if so it means we didn’t have anyone worth re-signing or extending on the roster, which is a different kind of problem.
