Could Rattler be our QB1 after another year or 2 of development? (merged) (4 Viewers)

I'm all for letting him start from here on out. Move on from Carr (who is not the problem nor solution) and let this franchise rebuild with some better picks.

I'd rather root for a young team with promise than whatever the heck this year has been.
Absolutely agree. We know what we have in Carr and the seasons over. Let Carr heal up and let’s get a better look at Rattler.

Maybe….i think he won the job for the rest of the year at least with his play today. Now let’s hope that the new HC is an offensive one who can develop him or at least bridge him to our next franchise QB. I think he’s shown enough to be successful in today’s nfl.

I don't know. Maybe? He has some of the tools but it's so hard to tell when the rest of the team is so bad. I don't think he's currently as good as Carr but he might exceed that with opportunity.

Yes, give Rat a year to develop with a full slate of talent around him (or at least allow the injured guys to get healthy). I wanted the Saints to do this with Taysom a few years ago, but they chickened out. Let Rat have a full year as starter, and make a decision afterwards.

Bringing in a rookie quarterback for next year just seems like throwing good money after bad, and sets that rookie up to have a Sam Darnold/ Baker Mayfield start to their career.

My opinion yes. He's very poised and a leader.
Don't know I personally need to see him in every situation an NFL QB faces from having a big lead and then getting beat in the last second, how does he come back from that the following week. What does he do if he throws 4 picks in the first half and the team is down by 21 does he come back poised and play lights out. Does he make good sound decisions and view the whole field or just panic and run or throw it out of bounds when he could have picked up an easy first down.

He hasn't really been in the pressure cooker because of the state of the season and the state of our team health and to see that he will have to play a lot more essentially become the starter. I just don't think without seeing a player game in and game out you can really say either way.

Every young QB just needs the opportunity to be the number 1 and be in a really good situation to succeed. Looking at our team as a whole it will take that long to build a solid team around any QB and 2 years would be doing it quickly.

I thought this was already apparent.

I think if we focus on drafting 27 offensive linemen and 54 Wide Receivers and maybe get a few dozen of each in free agency our training staff might be able to piece together a decent healthy offense to put around him.

How? We had a rookie QB with less than 2 quarters who orchestrated a damn near perfect comeback win against one of the better teams in the league.

Worth noting that Cooper Rush and the Cowboys beat that team…

Rattler played his tail off today. A lot of what he put on film today is what you want to see for a QB1 of the future. There is still (always) room to grow but this was a very strong showing today. He didn’t quit, the team didn’t quit. Even Haener seemed dialed in and pulling for him to have a strong performance.

Maybe. I would be surprised though. Just something missing or maybe I haven't seen it yet. It might show up at some stage.

IMHO should be a camp competition between Carr & Rattler next August, with a new FO and coaching staff.

In yards allowed per game, Washington was statistically one of the best defenses the Saints will face this season.
