Could Rattler be our QB1 after another year or 2 of development? (merged) (3 Viewers)

Yes, but rattler will NEED a OC or HC that is on another level.. Like Ben Johnson.

He could be our QB1 right now as far as I’m concerned. He has a certain “don’t give a ****”” mentality when throwing the ball. I’d take that all day every day over the timid play we get from Carr and Haener
If the next coach was a QB whisperer, or like CSP, he could turn into something to build upon

I don't know. Maybe? He has some of the tools but it's so hard to tell when the rest of the team is so bad. I don't think he's currently as good as Carr but he might exceed that with opportunity.
He might also exceed that with our injured starters healthy once again. Frankly I don’t know how any QB could win consistently with what’s left of our offense. Even a great quarterback needs to have some reliable weapons in the offensive huddle.

There's a poster here - who's like right almost every time he posts something... He's been saying this since he was drafted... I am told he's getting weary of being right all the time, and being doubted... I'm going to side with this poster... just can't remember his handle... Was it TempoFan...? RetroBan....? YoloTan…? Meh... I'm sure I will think of it.

The poster of which you speak isn't close to nearly "right almost every time" and they once dumped the nugget below on this board, then went on to shout it from their keyboard for the entire 2021 preseason. Reminds me of broken clocks, dogs having days, blind squirrels and all that stuff.

I'm sorry - Taysom is not going back to a Full Time Role in the "Joker" position if he loses this competition... I know a lot of people want to believe that because - If he Loses and Jameis wins - We get the "2 for 1"....
It's not happening - There are like 1000 articles out there on him spending the entire offseason training to be JUST a QB.... Only being in QB classes all offseason and in TC.... Changing his body to play JUST QB....
He's going to be a QB.... Either here this year as a start or backup... And/Or next year elsewhere...
He may have a play or 2 here and there in that Joker role per game IF he's the backup... But it won't be anything near the volume it was... That's over. (His role as the #2 in that scenario would also make that prohibitive)

My opinion yes. He's very poised and a leader.
Yes he could. Maybe even as soon as some time next year if Carr doesn’t have this team headed strongly in right direction. Would’ve loved to see Rattler with Olave and Shaheed and a better o line.

And his future development should be a priority moving forward. Carr is still QB1 but should be seen as a bridge, not someone you build around.

Cameron Jordan said Rattler was “playing his arse off” and that “the way the energy felt, there wasn’t anybody on the sideline that didn’t think we were going to make” the 2-point conversion to win the game.

The above is not only an endorsement of Rattler as a QB but of Rizzi indirectly. I love the way he handles players and situations. Not getting the 2-point conversion and winning isn’t nearly as important as the message being sent by Rizzi’s decision.

It says I trust you guys as a team in big moments and is a big vote of confidence to players.

No disrespect, DA would have kicked the field goal. We would have lost in OT due to questionable coaching and it would have been far more demoralizing. Even though the play-call to roll Rattler out and eliminate half the field is suspect, they were still inches away from winning. It was an honorable death, for lack of better words.

Rattler may or may not be future QB1 as he still needs a ton of seasoning, but he’s obviously a dish worth preparing.

If we want to get another year out of Cam Jordan, keep him at that weight and limit his snaps to 3rd down rusher only. His run defense has gone down the drain, but he still attacks blockers in the passrush voraciously.

Had Adebo not been injured, Alontae Taylor would be playing in Marshon’s vacated spot at boundary CB (short side of field) where he belongs. Go back and look at his rookie highlights to see why I say this.

Get Kendre Miller more touches. He’s the right amount of POW to compliment AK’s more smooth running style.

Despite a couple of questionable calls against him, Dante Fowler Jr’s motor runs at the level coaches want to see from Chase Young.

The defense looks less leaky under Woods but isn’t getting the turnovers it was getting earlier in the season, specifically from the safety position.

Our new coach has options: We can go a year or two while focusing on building the rest of the roster until a truly elite quarterback is available.

I agree Rattler is worth developing. No reason to keep Haener unless it's camp arm-practice squad-scout team duties. In other words... cheap labor.
I'm glad he got his shot, and there's no reason to dislike the man, but it's pretty obvious he's not a guy I see developing into even a mid back-up. Rattler
on the other hand. He LOOKS like an NFL QB. There's tons of potential to work with. At the very very least, he could be a high level back-up that you can
win with if QB1 goes down. His ceiling is at least average QB1 with potential to be more. No need to spend a pick on QB unless the new coach wants "his" guy.

Watching Daniels yesterday... Yeah he runs to green grass when it's there and the throw is not. Not too seldom, not too often. We need that in New Orleans. I think Rattler could use his legs a little more. I said the same about Carr, but then when he gives it to us, he decides to jump over instead of under the defense and he's back in the ice tub.. Again.

I like this Rattler kid.

Only one point of disagreement. DA would not have gone for the one point PAT at the end to tie. We would not have been within 20 points at the end because the players would have quit by halftime. This was Rizz’s best game.

I'll say it again for the QB and Modern NFL Impaired (Not you guys EJW)....

Modern successful NFL QBs "Must be able to operate off schedule and create when things break down"... and they must be able to do it consistently.

This should not be some big surprise... Just look at who the best are and what they do or attempt to do.

All the middle of the road guys are physically gifted but less mobile and more locked into a system...

And the guys that are terrible have less physical ability and rely on the system and talent round them.

Rattler's potential falls into that Physically gifted and can operate off schedule and create when things break down... More importantly - guys want to play for him, and he's a natural leader... You can see it when he comes on the field.... That's why you give him every chance to develop and start for this team... Guys like him are hard to find in round 1... we were very lucky to land him in a QB heavy draft later on...

Carr falls into the Middle of the road category.... these guys need to be replaced by top level guys anytime you think you have one... If you want to compete for a championship, and are not content with a .500 record.

Ya'll know who falls into the last category...

Next season there needs to be a real competition between Carr and Spencer.... Jake needs to be traded or released.... and we need to start drafting QBs with modern top level QB traits...

If not... it will be more of the same... The NFL is all about QB and Coach... we need both.... We may have half the equation in house... We must find out.

As someone that was really high on Rattler even before we drafted him, I was thrilled to see him come in yesterday and nearly lead us to a huge comeback victory against a good team. Rattler has been a very difficult QB to properly evaluate this year given the circumstances he's had to deal with. With a terrible combination of our top skill players being hurt, our OL being decimated, and playing against top tier defenses.

In his first game vs Tampa Bay, I thought he looked great in the first half getting us out of a big deficit and giving us a chance to compete going into the 2nd half, but then the game started to get out of hand in the second half as our defense played arguably one of the worst games in recent memory and Spencer had a Bucs defense pinning their ears back against our makeshift OL in the 2nd half while also having Olave and Shaheed get hurt in that game.

Then Rattler plays Denver, who has arguably had the best defense in the NFL this season without Olave, Shaheed, and missing 3 starting OL. The game was a mess and even if Carr was healthy for that game, I wouldn't expect the result to have been much different. Our offense had no chance while being that shorthanded against an elite defense like Denver.

Then Rattler plays the Chargers in his 3rd game. In this game his supporting cast was a bit better, but still missing our best and most important OL. Rattler at least had a chance in this game with Olave back in the lineup and a bit better OL situation. However he was still going against a top tier defense against the Chargers. No easy task for a rookie QB even if our team was at full strength which it obviously wasn't.

In Rattler's 4 games this season it's kind of funny that the best situation he has been in was against the Commanders down 14 points coming into the game at half time. He was finally working with an OL that was at full strength, but even then was without our 2 best WR's and going against just a "good" defense instead of an "elite" defense. In this game, I thought Rattler showed much better poise in the pocket to navigate and avoid the rush while making quicker decisions to get rid of the ball. It wasn't a perfect performance as there were a couple throws he'd probably like to have back, but there was way more positives than negatives from this performance. He made several key throws and improvised when he needed to. If I'm not mistaken I thought I heard we had 1 first down in the 1st half and 16 first downs in the 2nd half. Rattler also led us to 4 scoring drives in the 2nd half after putting up a goose egg in the 1st half. He even managed to do this without Kamara for a big chunk of the 2nd half.

Seems there will be a decent chance that Rattler will start vs Green Bay in one of the most difficult places to play on the road (especially this time of year). Hopefully guys like Chris Olave and Bub Means will be available to play in that game. As it's honestly wild the schedule that Rattler has had to go against in his games this season. If we look at the records of the team Rattler has played this year:

Bucs: 8-6
Broncos: 9-5 (top tier defense)
Chargers: 8-6 (top tier defense)
Commanders: 9-5 (good defense)
Packers*: 10-4 (good defense)

Hope we let Rattler close out the season to see what he's really capable of. It's hard enough for rookie QB's coming into the league when their teams are at full strength, but to play under these circumstances against an absolute gauntlet of quality teams is a very tough task. Hopefully we continue to see signs of growth from Rattler in the coming games if he plays. For him limiting the couple throws each game that could lead to a turnover and making quick decisions with the ball like he did vs the Commanders will be crucial in him showing he can be a QB to build around for the future. Would love to see him get the start vs the Raiders as I think that's the type of game that could be a huge confidence boost for a rookie QB to potentially have a big outing.

He might also exceed that with our injured starters healthy once again. Frankly I don’t know how any QB could win consistently with what’s left of our offense. Even a great quarterback needs to have some reliable weapons in the offensive huddle.
Yea, Tampa looked pretty good with WRs yesterday.

I will only watch games if Rattler is the QB. No more Derek Carr.
If Dc4 played yesterday we’d have won. If Rattler was Qb2 going into the Giants game, then we would’ve won vs Wash. IOW, we can win with those two. Even if one goes down.

What's more attractive to a possible incoming new head coach? An aging Carr, whose career you have a slim chance of resurrecting, or a young whippersnapper with some guts and moxie, who needs some polishing and molding and just might become something special? And you, new head coach, could be the one who makes that happen!
