Could Rattler be our QB1 after another year or 2 of development? (merged) (1 Viewer)

Let these two compete. I have little doubt that Carr would win out in training camp next year. I also have little doubt that 1 more season as a backup with a new head coach that's revamping the talent on the team would also best serve Rattler for a 2026 take over as QB1. Will he work out and be a franchise QB? No idea. We've seen plenty of QB's in the last two decades who appeared to be answers after a few games or even a full season just to completely bomb out and be well below mediocre.

But another season as QB2 while the new coach revamps the talent on the offense would help put Rattler in better position to succeed in 2026.

There is zero benefit to anyone by starting Carr next year. Firstly he just isn’t that good but more importantly, his timeline just doesn’t match with the Saints’. The Saints aren’t going to be good for a minimum of 2 more years. Carr isn’t young and the Saints clearly aren’t going to extend him.

You go with Rattler next year and find out whether he’s the long term answer. If not, you’re very likely picking top 5 and can get your QB of choice in the 2026 draft.

For evaluation purposes, I hope we go w/Rattler the rest of the way & give him an extended audition for next years QB1 competition. Carr is what he is & that notion does not excite even a little. I like Haener, but he’s unfortunately not the guy. & in terms of the 2025 QB class, id take Rattler over Shedeur, & Ward. Maybe if Cade Klubnik declares id love to see us get him, but other than that, i think Rattler has just as much ceiling, if not more because of his arm talent than any QB available in the 25 class.

In my opinion, we should roll 100 w/Rattler in 25 & have Carr & Haener be the QB2 & 3. Sign & draft weapons to surround him w/on O & D & we sink or swim w/Rattler at the helm. If he continues to improve & impress, we keep building around him moving forward. IF NOT, 26 & 27 will have way better QB classes to choose from w/guys like Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, Jackson Armold, Malachi Nelson, Lanorris Sellers, Dylan Riaola, & Eli Holstein all coming out. We could draft our future franchise QB1 then if Rattler fails his opportunity to solidify himself as the guy in 25.

It's up to Rattler. He's got the talent, he just needs to have the drive that great QBs have to get to the next level. Brees was the first in the facility and the last out. You have to love the game and be driven to win at a level that is considered manic.

I'll say it again for the QB and Modern NFL Impaired (Not you guys EJW)....

Modern successful NFL QBs "Must be able to operate off schedule and create when things break down"... and they must be able to do it consistently.

This should not be some big surprise... Just look at who the best are and what they do or attempt to do.

All the middle of the road guys are physically gifted but less mobile and more locked into a system...

And the guys that are terrible have less physical ability and rely on the system and talent round them.

Rattler's potential falls into that Physically gifted and can operate off schedule and create when things break down... More importantly - guys want to play for him, and he's a natural leader... You can see it when he comes on the field.... That's why you give him every chance to develop and start for this team... Guys like him are hard to find in round 1... we were very lucky to land him in a QB heavy draft later on...

Carr falls into the Middle of the road category.... these guys need to be replaced by top level guys anytime you think you have one... If you want to compete for a championship, and are not content with a .500 record.

Ya'll know who falls into the last category...

Next season there needs to be a real competition between Carr and Spencer.... Jake needs to be traded or released.... and we need to start drafting QBs with modern top level QB traits...

If not... it will be more of the same... The NFL is all about QB and Coach... we need both.... We may have half the equation in house... We must find out.
I want to see him developed.

He needs to trigger quickly so he can use his legs to his advantage more. He locks onto his 1st read for longer than necessary and by the time he comes off it to scramble he’s getting taken down from behind b4 he gets a chance to run.

He got the ball out and quickly and beat the blitz far better than he did vs the Yucks. He improved from the last time we saw him, and that’s significant considering he wasn’t getting the backup QB reps.

He should be getting them moving forward once Carr returns.

He needs to win some games b4 I start referring to him as the #1. Still think Carr is better but development and patience has always been my hope for Rattler.

Yes because I don't see anyone in the draft who is better than Rattler right now. Those 3 games earlier are sign he isn't ready this year. What I saw yesterday was someone who can be very good. With confidence, a better supporting cast and a year of experiences, he is your franchise quarterback. Fans needs to be patient. When I saw him overcome some HORRIBLE offensive line play yesterday, I was impressed. Bad offensive line play is not an excuse for bad quarterback plays. Rattler was horrible the first 3 games. Haener was horrible yesterday. But Rattler play much better despite how bad the line play. The line allow defensive players to run free hitting the quarterback just when they got out of their stance. Rattler was able to overcome that and I was totally impressed. Hope the next coach and this organization able to build what they have now. We are a bad team. But we do needs some pieces and play makers.

For the capital we gave up to get him, it’d be a win if Rattler just developed into a solid backup. It’s early, but I don’t know if i see him developing into anything more than a backup. We have to keep looking until it’s obvious we found a starter.
Put me in the camp of respectful disagreement. I believe Rattler has the juice to be a damn good NFL QB. Many of you were bagging on Baker Mayfield when Tampa Bay made that move, but look at him now? The team loves him, he’s a fierce competitor, and he has juice. I believe Rattler can be that guy and more.

I do not think Spencer is a franchise quarterback, QB1 but I think he will have a great career as the best backup in the league as someone who can win games in a pinch. He's got below average height, average speed, average arm. I do not think he will be able to overcome those issues over the course of a 17 game season and playoffs and become a franchise guy.

I do however want to cut Carr give Rattler the keys next year and sign a Tyrod Taylor type backup while looking to draft a franchise guy in 2026.
