Could Siemien Be a Lot Better With a Full Week of Starter Reps? [Mod edit] (1 Viewer)

Siemian had some good moments, but he also had some bad moments… and the bad moments were really bad. Luckily he got bailed-out by the dirty Bucs defense committing penalties at key moments.

I appreciate what TS was able to do to help the Saints win yesterday, but he’s not a viable starter for the rest of the season IMHO.

I appreciate the optimism, but living in Colorado I saw enough of Simien to know a week of practice as the starter won't fix him. He's not a starting QB in this league. It would be a miracle if he suddenly transforms into a starting qb with any semblance of consistency.
But, that Denver team he played on was warmed over garbage, and he was the best of that QB grouping in Denver.

I'd rather Siemian than Taysom at QB1. And yeah, coming in mid-game is always rough. Teddy's worst game as a Saint came when he replaced Drew mid-game. Jameis looked lost when he came in vs. SF last year. So yeah, I think he can get better with reps and practice. He did throw for over 3000 yards in his first season in Denver (who had an 8-6 record in his starts that year).

What worries me about Siemian is his throws are kinda floaty and his footwork seemed shaky. On the 3rd down before the field goal to put us up 26-21, if he just steps into his throw to an open Deonte, we have 1st and goal. I saw him throw off his back foot a few other times, too.

But yeah, we'll know more about him next week if he gets the start.

Siemian would be the worst starting QB that we’ve fielded over the past three years. He’d be worse than Brees, Winston, Bridgewater and Hill. We could possibly survive Siemian for a couple of weeks, but if he’s our starter for the rest of the year then we’ve hit our high water mark today.
But you did watch the game yesterday?

A guy put into his first game since 2019 led the team to a win vs one of the best defenses in the league.

Some people just need to hate on everything.

Trevor looked confident
Surveyed the field properly (better than Hill) and made some pin point throws in clutch moments.

All without starter reps. Seriously he performed better than half of the leagues starting QBs

true, but Denver doesnt have an offensive mind/coach like Payton. look what he has done with teddy and Taysom and Winston starting

He took over a team fresh off a Super Bowl victory. Yes, they lost some pieces, either due to injury or free agency, but that team was not garbage.
I did go back and take a look. That team had talent in 2016. I think Trevor could throw amazing TDs, but threw equally as many INTs. Sean has had a great effect on QBs, Trevor looked good when coming in relief for Brees. He played 3/4s of the game, and scored points on a very inspired superbowl defense 0/ turnovers. Yes, he got lucky on one play called back.

How picky can we be replacing a HOF QB, and then loose the guy who was having what seemed like a 29 TD to 10 or less INT kind of season. Trevor knows the offense and looked good running it. Perfect is the enemy of good enough. This team may not win a SB with a Trevor, but we could get in the playoffs with him.

Losing your starting QB is never ideal but if you look at it from a production standpoint, Winston's numbers so far this year seem manageable.

Not including last night, Winston has averaged this through 6 complete games:

15/25 186 yards 2 TDs .5 Int

Winston has also made some big plays with his feet extending drives. There's no way to replace Winston's arm talent but I don't think it's unreasonable to think Siemian could hover around those per game averages. But it's the same as it was with Winston, real simple, take care of the ball. If it's not there throw it away.

And Trevor nearly got (those numbers) in 3 quarters of relief... Pretty sure Taysom can get there or better, while also offering his running skills.... we'll be fine.

(BTW - Taysom through his 4 games last year averaged 22/30 232 yards 1 TD .5 Int 52 Rush Yds and 1 Rush TD - Per game)

People need to just get behind Taysom and drop their bias at this point about the guy, Sean has stated many times that Trevor is the "in game backup" due to the game plan with Taysom at other positions... but should the Starter not be available going forward, Taysom would be the QB1 the following week.

Like it or not, this is Taysom's team from here on (as long as he is healthy).

Siemien did a great job for us. I rewatched some game film this morning and what I noticed was in the beginning he was throwing to guys that we never use. 2nd/3rd stringers.

Then I realized he has some rapport and a comfort level with those guys because he was throwing with them in practice all year.

So I'm thinking when Siemien gets some reps with the 1's this week it may even further improve his game.

Say what you want but Siemien led us on a game winning drive in the 4th quarter against the Super Bowl champs. And our defense held on at the end.
