COVID-19 Outbreak Information Updates (Reboot) [over 150.000,000 US cases (est.), 6,422,520 US hospitilizations, 1,148,691 US deaths.] (5 Viewers)

My kids' school went to mask-optional today. My kids are vaccinated and had Omicron at Christmas. We asked them and of course they wanted no longer to wear the mask, so we said fine. We told them they need to bring a mask in case there's a situation where they might need it (the announcement said they will still wear them in large indoor assemblies), and that they should understand and respect that other families are still going to want their children to wear a mask - and that's just fine.
It would be interesting to see how positive cases trend now. Texas doesn't have a mask mandate, although some school districts implemented their own in spite of the governor. Our school district complied with the governor so no masks were worn from the beginning. In January, positive cases from students and staff exploded, but have really come down and leveled off.

And they had some world record breath holding going on too.
Its just over, there is no way you can continue to spout covid at this stage is still a huge threat after celebrities(one who called people A.holes for not wearing a mask was caught maskless high-fiving people) and politicians. This is how you embolden the anti-mask crowd by being hypocrites, its over, its done, its time to move on. I'm a bit more vulnerable so I continue to wear my mask but there is no way you can put the poop back into the horse after people saw that on full display last night.

I guess this belongs here, I just got a call from my doc. My blood work came back. I dropped from 415 to 190 on
total cholesterol. I've given up alcohol , processed foods, red meat and other junk for six months. I've lived on veggies, cold water fish and legumes during this time. Forgive me for I'm about to celebrate with a foot long shrimp and oyster poboy fully dressed with blue plate mayo. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Awesome. Congrats on the hard work

Yeah, that was a pretty massive display of, "Rules for thee, but not for me" last night.

I think it was more of them thinking Covid isn't as bad as it used to be so we should be ok now, than anything related to rules or whatever. Typical of a population thinking we're out of the woods now. We may be, but I wouldn't count on it just yet.

We aren’t out of the woods by any stretch but it is going to take a significant change in Covid to push sentiment back towards restrictions.

I agree that restrictions should be dropped everywhere and the people not following their own guidance undermine any future restrictions or guidance if/when needed.

The numbers are trending down, but we're still averaging about about 2000-2500 people dying in the U.S. every day right now. Which, two years in, is both saddening and maddening.

But yeah, by and large everyone is done with the restrictions and wants to move on. If/when a new variant creates a spike it should be dealt with it when it happens, but at this point everyone should be aware of covid and how to try to protect yourself from it, recognizing that those that don't are the ones making up the majority of the casualties.

Right. I'm not downplaying the impacts. Just downplaying policy that isn't being adhered to, particularly among those making it. It just undermines the entire system in the future.

I mean, we don't have to wear protective gloves to prevent our hands getting cut off in the blender. We simply don't stick our hands in the blendger. It's damn near that obvious at this point.

My kid still has to wear a mask all day in school in Orleans Parish

I dont know any more about the circumstances of this party than you do but, everyone in attendance could have been required to take a COVID test before entry or everyone could have been required to show proof of vaccination and booster and not have a fever.

You see these are things we can't do in schools to protect our teachers. I wonder if she had a drink at this party, something else your kid can't do at school for obvious AF reasons.

I went to a surgical center today for an upcoming procedure. I have to have a clean COVID test 3 days prior to the surgery and need to quarantine after the test, yet the entire staff that I interacted with today at the office was maskless. Nothing makes sense with this and hasn't for a long time.

LOL

the mayor has deleted the photos they had posted but you can still find them online. No masks anywhere, and it wasn't because they were eating and drinking.

The simple fact is that the Mayor instituted a mask mandate for all indoor gatherings in Orleans (on top of the vax mandate) and blatantly ignored it. As did every other elected official at the party.

All I want is for her to give my son (who is 17 and vaxxed) the same leeway she gives to herself under her own stupid rules.

Funny how people will bend over backwards in a feeble attempt to defend the actions of such hypocrites.
