COVID-19 Outbreak Information Updates (Reboot) [over 150.000,000 US cases (est.), 6,422,520 US hospitilizations, 1,148,691 US deaths.] (1 Viewer)

My area is dark red for omicron BA5. I was even in a small contained area with 4 people who had covid for more than 45 minutes as well. No masks or anything.

Yeah I don’t know. There’s now subvariants of BA5 that appear more infectious. Maybe the virus just doesn’t think you’re a good host. 😁

2.75 is already started early overtaking indications over BA.5

With so much home testing going on and most estimates at 7-10x actual numbers Im thinking the current wave is massive but the trailing indicators are not going up in proportion to even the last Omicron wave. The last 12 months has been a massive leap towards endemic common cold. Hope it keeps hauling arse in that direction with BA5 and 2.75

Still dont want it but know the risk isnt anywhere near what it was just a year ago.

I woke up for work this morning at 3:30am and my Godson was in the kitchen. He works 6pm-6am. I asked him why he was home. He said that he has COVID. I said that there are masks on the kitchen counter. He said that he has one in the car. This kind of stupidity is why this thing won't go away. He was coughing in the kitchen and couldn't comprehend that maybe he should wear a mask.
I'm catching up.

So, he's dead now, right, or at least homeless? lol. I mean, seriously?

Where did you see that? Everything I read says it's too early to tell, if it will overtake BA.5. And in the US, it's not even in the radar yet (It's here, but not in meaningful numbers yet).

It was in a long article I read last week. Multiple virologists tracking the strains stated concern by the speed in which 2.75 has spread to so many countries combined with the type of mutations on the spike protein that make it favorable for rapid spread and overtake. They aren't worried about it being dominant right now because it takes a while for new strains to get a footing, particularly when a strain early in it's stages like BA5 are causing a surge. They said it checks all the boxes to become the dominant strain they are really concerned about it specifically for the fall/winter surge in the US in a few months. Really early though.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, said Monday he plans to retire by the end of President Joe Biden’s term in January 2025.

Fauci, 81, was appointed director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in 1984, and has led research in HIV/AIDS, respiratory infections, Ebola, Zika and the coronavirus. He has advised seven presidents and is Biden’s chief medical adviser.

In an interview with Politico, Fauci said he hoped to “leave behind an institution where I have picked the best people in the country, if not the world, who will continue my vision.”….

Day 13

I woke up Monday, Day 11, feeling pretty decent but my sinuses were draining more than over the weekend,
I decide to take an at home test and the positive line was darker than it was 3 days prior. Actually darker from when I tested on day 2.
Throughout Monday, things steadily when downhill. The sinuses drained like a faucet. Sneezing a lot. Fatigue got worse.
Yesterday was slightly better. I have been taking LOTS of generic mucinex with and ephedrine. Also taking 50 mg of diphenhydramine to help me sleep. Last night I went to bed at 7:30 and slept till 1. Took more of the Benadryl and mucinex. back to sleep at 2 and woke up late for work at 8. Showered and hauled azz to make it by 8:30.
Today, I've been feeling a bit of brain fog. The draining and sneezing has eased up. But, the congestion in the sinuses still there. Occasionally, clearing the throat and general fatigue.

READY FOR THIS TO BE OVER WITH!!!
Hopefully, tomorrow is a light day and I can sleep in.

They've started mandatory masks at work again. Started Monday. So far, seeing fewer people in the building this week, though vacations could be a reason as well.

Monday my wife and I got our second boosters, but not sure it does any good at this point. I heard talk about the next wave of vaccines will be a combined new COVID + flu vaccine.

We are planning a trip for September to WA state's Olympic National Park and will be our first flight since COVID began. Definitely going to mask on the flight. We haven't had it yet, and not sure if it will benefit us to get it before or not. Reading the range of symptoms here from all you, I hope we can continue to dodge it. I've had bad cases of the flu and it amazes me what a bug in your system can do to completely wipe you out.

The worst strain of the flu I ever caught was the following. I was a freshman in HS. I was a member of the Track, football
and baseball team. I was in the best shape of my life. I spent one week in bed praying not to cough or laugh. If I caught
a similar strain today, you can probably write my obituary.

Wear the mask.

I talked to a coworker today who lives in Georgia. His wife, and then he, and his kid got Covid. They were all fine, but he got hit a lot harder than the rest. He didn't have the 2 day fever a lot of us had, he had it for a full week, and like 103-104, unless on tylenol, then it would drop to 102. He even said he talked to his Doctor after and they basically 'joked' that if not for the vaccine, he'd probably have been dead. He's a very slim, healthy guy in his 40's. Dunno why it hits some more than others.

Side note, he also said, he's like 2 degrees of separation from like 70 people who died, including a neighborhood kid. He knows it was super rare, but still, that close to home, made him nervous.
