I would suspect all body fluids. I'd like to see a study on sweat.

Probably. But there has been quite a bit of analysis about the prevalence of the virus in testicles. Still not sure what’s going on there.

Underneath all of the social/political debate, the balance of public health versus economic health, the rights of the individual versus the safety of the collective . . . under all of that, some really amazing science is being done on a scale that humankind has never mustered in all of history.

Media story:

Original report:

It is remarkable. And aside from the advances in medical science, it'll be interesting to see how every day life changes as a result of all this. I was eating some M&M's yesterday and thought about how they came about, as alternative for the troops in WWII to each chocolate without it melting all over the place. Would anyone have ever invented them if it wasn't for the war? Think about all the random stuff we take for granted that came from NASA.
We better get some sweet swag out of this crap.

Good question.Death and suffering are, from what I understand, part of life. This is by far the most attention a single disease process has been paid in decades, easily. The response has been unprecedented. So the answer to your last question is pretty simple in my opinion...our response hasn’t been consistent with our prior response to past sufferings from disease, it’s been much greater.

What’s your plan? What time table are you looking at? Are you waiting for the vaccine to save us a year from now? The vaccine that may or may not actually hit?

You have the means to ride this thing out until it’s eradicated 2 to million years from now? Good for you I suppose. Other people in this world need to be able to support their families...something that is a big challenge when business are closing their doors and you’re competing with the millions of already unemployed. The curve has been flattened...now we just need to keep it flat. Yes sacrifices will still need to be made, but I’m personally interested in seeing how much we can get away with while keeping the curve flattened. That’s the entire strategy of reopening in phases.

Who are you willing to sacrifice?

I’m sorry you must be under the impression that my comment was a political one, let me restate what I was trying to say is that if we follow this person‘s suggestions people are in are going to die. I don’t need to be redirected to a political website.

Agreed.. and mods, please let me know if I’m outta line- but i think it’s very clear, and not political at all, to realize that if the current occupant of the Oval Office is left to his own devices, not just ‘some people’ are going to die- but a lot of us, if staggering numbers that we cant comprehend right now, will wind up dead.. if we have to tiptoe around that, and cant state the obvious, then that’s simply dangerous... It is literally to the point where we have to figure out a way through this thing not *with* the President, but in *spite* of the President.

Have you bothered to research the fallout from an economic depression? The number of suicides, the massive increase in crime and associated deaths? The deaths from a degradation of the health care system? And that isnt even getting into the other negative consequences

People will die as a result of whatever decisions are made...all we can do is hope to minimize it

That's been the case since Day 1.

Have you? I did. I posted the results a few pages back. Life expectancy increased during the Great Depression.

I've deleted a lot of the more recent stuff. I'll keep this up for now, even though it is quoting something that was deleted. These aren't all directed at you, but while we're here...

1. if a moderator or admin decides to delete a post, the worst thing to do is to re-post it and publicly ask "why was this removed".

2. stating Nov 3 can't get here soon enough, is more political than most of us would like in here.

3. Calling the president a petulent man child isn't going to fly in here either.

Now, the point about questioning the 'leadership' coming out of the Admin, vs the leadership coming from State and local leaders, is fair. The Admin as a whole has put out some good stuff, either because of or in spite of the President. However, it seems like, overall, the Fed's are defaulting to the States to make these decisions. We'll see how wise that is down the road. I'd in favor of the States controlling the situation, but with stronger federal coordination.

Let's be cautious and judicious about how we throw in politics here. On a Saints Football fan forum, you'll be expected to tip toe a bit here. In your own personal lives, or on political discussion boards, no tip toeing needed.

Thanks.

Interesting. Why?

Unknown. The study did find an increase in suicides, but not the massive spike people seem to expect.
I would expect that while it was certainly miserable, Americans of the time were unwilling to see each other die of starvation and with so many unemployed, industrial/agricultural accidents declined sharply.

OK I did a little searching. In the first link, the article notes what you said but also states that those relationships have changed from that time to now

And this article notes that it was mostly a lack of automobile deaths responsible for the change...since people couldnt afford cars
