Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (4 Viewers)

Totally forgot about this thread.

after 22 years (yeah 22 years ) with DirecTv, i finally made the move in November. I had simply had enough between the station disputes/ fees/packages/cost. I had called them to offer them one last opportunity to lower my bill. I was paying $256/mo JUST FOR TV ( that was for 5 TVs w/ genie boxes. The lowest they could get me was to $150 for 6 mo, then jumps back up to around $190-200/mo.

I declined and moved over to YouTube TV. $64/mo for all the SAME CHANNELS....no outage during rain storm. No disputes with stations.

I do, at times, get some picture "judder" but its not often at all and honestly, for $64 I DONT CARE. I cannot BELIEVE i was such a creature of habit that i waited this long to pull the DirecTv plug.

Oh and i get 6 TVs plus mobile access ( now only have 4 Tvs running )
I did the exact same this earlier this year. With direct TV since 1997

I'm very happy with YouTube TV. Especially as I can watch it and importantly Sunday ticket anywhere.

i have noticed that i watch way less TV than i did before streaming took over....

i sometimes miss flipping through channels and finding something random to watch....
Now you can scroll through netflix and find nothing... just like the old days..

not sure how I missed this, but Disney just put ESPN on its regular lineup
i'd obviously knew that you could bundle them but I hadn't, but today I turned on Disney and there it was
seems like it's been there since the 4th
was it obvious that you knew? really? things like that are never obvious with old people.

How are you paying $64 when the base plan is $73?

lookin at my account now

its $64.99. so maybe it was a promo deal that will go to $72.99 when done? idk.

i know i did say my buddy referred me ( he got a $45 credit ) so maybe part of that promo is lowered rate for a period of time?

Rest assured there will be disputes with stations. As soon as the ownership wants more than You Tube is willing to pay their will be cut offs. just like with Satellite and cable company's

I dont doubt, but i think their biz model represents a larger swath of the country than DirecTv - specific to having installers come( between 8-12 or 1-5pm lol ) out install dish, run cable, hook up, install box(es) etc.

This is open app, scan QR code, enter code given and you are watching TV.

Im sure disputes will start once they plateau with user numbers, but hopefully by then, i will have moved on from TV and have chip in brain to get my news and entertainment

Man, YouTube TV cut off the RSNs in a New York second and they never came back. It took forever before the CW was added to my lineup. They're not afraid to drop channels and keep them off.

Maybe, but I've had You Tube TV for several years, maybe 5?, and I have not yet seen a carriage dispute. Maybe it's just stuff I didn't care about. On the flip side, they do keep raising their prices and that is likely to avoid carriage disputes.

I'm waiting for ESPN to go to their own streaming for ESPN, ESPN2, and the SEC Network. Once they do that I can get rid of YouTube TV. It's a good service but the price is too high given how little live TV I watch. I really only watch sports on live TV which would essentially be taken care of if ESPN would go to streaming.

The nice thing is that if YouTube TV takes off channels you need, you can always just switch to another streaming service month to moth as opposed to being stuck with DTV or Cable when they do it because it takes too long to switch or switch back.

Doesn’t have the same vibe as early 90s channel surfing…the randomness was key

You could end up watching Commando or The Rock or Looney Tunes or rugby…spin the wheel of entertainment
