Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (3 Viewers)

I'm missing nothing. Nostalgia for the gatekeeper. I get it. I typed out a longer response, but settled for the Jolly Roger because why not embrace the Idiocracy and only communicate in hieroglyphics.

hiero - jiff - ics? or hiero - gif - ics?

when streaming apps get out of hand with price like cable did, along will come something else, a different kind of model who knows, maybe antennas will make a comeback. local channels and local sports are the only thing keeping cable hanging into that thread as it is .
when it becomes viable for local channels to have their own streaming apps, that will be a game changer, a kill for cable and a hurt for streaming. if Hulu(not the live tv service), peacock, paramount+ and Disney+ start offering affiliate local only channels that could be a way to start it off..

How are you paying $64 when the base plan is $73?

bruh....yall jinxed it.

I just got email, 10 min ago, stating my base package price will go to $82.99 eff Jan 13, 2025

LOLOLOL. I dont know if im still within some promo period because im at the $64.99 rate, but it says after Jan 2025, base rate goes from $73.99 to $82.99.

The "price increase creep" has begun.....damn.

Price increases, in the words of Thanos, are "inevitable" ;)

Part of that has to be your 4K upgrade. I had a trial of that and then it went up (I don’t remember exact amount - $15ish?) and there wasn’t nearly enough compatible content to make it worth it.

Edit: never mind, I see that actually is the base increase in January. I’d still take a look at whether it’s worth keeping 4K.

Price creep began years ago and includes commercials that you pay to watch. Netflix price increased by a dollar pretty much every six months for several years before i canceled it when they increased the price over 20 and announced commercials... pirates life for me.

As of Oct 2024, DirectTv wanted $150~( best offer they could give a 23 yr vet lol ) - so even at $83 plus the $4.99 4k - still much better. Once i get to above $110-20 range, then ill start looking again, but for now i can stomach the $90/mo.

I just got the same email. That's $90 per month with tax. That's the second $10 increase in two years. I almost left them a year ago, but I think this is a bridge too far. I'm certainly out once the college playoffs are over. Maybe before.

What's plan B?

Hulu / Disney / ESPN package?

whic is an upsaide to streaming services and why a lot of people prefer them now.
It almost takes an act of congress to cancel service for DTV and Cox, etc. you HAVE to call and talk to them and they go on and on and on about deals and free HBO, etc, does DTV still do 2 year contracts? With the Streaming services , go to your account setting and cancel service and you done... works great when you want it during football season.

meth streams and VR chat.. Everything you need to watch whatever you want. For the low low price of an internet connection.

Yep. I actually just switched to Hulu with Live TV because my YouTube TV was set to renew on December 15. I already have the Hulu/Disney/ESPN bundle so when compared to the new price for YouTube TV I'm saving $10. Which isn't much but I only use the live TV stuff for sports as it is and I'm just tired of YouTube doing $10 price increases for the same channels and services.

Yep. The upside is you can cancel/switch whenever you want to. It just took me like 5 minutes to cancel YouTube TV and start Hulu Live TV and that included the time it took to compare costs. So, yes, it's still better than cable/satellite, but they are pushing the envelope every year.
