[Deleted X post] Rizzi’s interview was impressive per Nick Underhill (1 Viewer)

Agreed. But there are still some things you'd expect to improve on if he were an upper-level HC that didn't. Let's say we could clone a 2005 Payton, before he got to the Saints. If the Saints made Clone-Payton the interim HC instead of Rizzi, would they still have finished with a 3-5 record? I think not.

That should be the standard. If you want pretty good, just get McCarthy.
Yeah, the Payton clone would not have done too much better with this decimated roster.

He also said Glenn to jets love was mischaracterized but here we are. Waiting at the frozen airport alter

Right because things don't change. Like after that report, Ben Johnson didn't take the Bears job instead of going to the Raiders with Lance Newmark as the GM. Which meant that the Jets could hire Newmark, who Glenn is very close to, as their GM. And it couldn't be that it was then that Glenn decided that he wanted to go to the Jets so he could work with the guy he wanted to work with as his GM.

I think he may have jumped the gun a little.

This is the second consecutive process that Loomis has (potentially) selected the internal candidate. Articles stating how impressive the internal candidate was BEFORE the minority candidates check the box do not help.

Exposes the organization to the risk of: the hire was made before I interviewed (see B. Flores accusations).

They probably asked him to take it down, go play in the snow, and start the campaign next week.

Jesus. This board spends months calling Loomis and idiot, but now he's some sort of genius concocting and elaborate scheme to hire Rizzi?

And Nick took down the Tweet but the same quote is still up in an article on his site. Which means all this he took it down because the team asked him to is total bullshirt.

This fanbase loves to eat it's own. First it was DA, then Loomis, and now Underhill and Kamara.

But there is certainly a chance that the team thought Glenn would take the job due to his history with the team and that they didn't really have a backup plan if that didn't happen. That the Jets are getting in the way could end up leaving us choosing between coaches we didn't really want and never planned to hire. Or maybe the backup plan has always been Rizzi. Regardless, it's at least plausible and the brother of a current Saints player seems to see it that way and I don't think he's wrong to make the speculation. We may never really know, but it'll be telling by who they ultimately choose.

How telling will it be if they hire McCarthy?

The fact that he was the last added to the list and hasn’t had any interview yet would make him a last resort.

I doubt it. I do think Glenn was the first choice, but there are others on the list and McCarthy became the likely 2nd choice if Glenn goes to the Jets.

He was the last added to the list because he could only be put on the list once he left the Cowboys. And I suspect that Chicago was McCarthy's first choice so he wasn't going to bother interviewing here until the Chicago job was off the table.

I really don't think Rizzi is going to get the job, but I'll eat crow if he does.

Neither player is likely to be here in three years. Front office needs to make the best decision for the organization based on their own process, not player sentiments.

A part of me wants the players to NOT like who is hired. We need a new program and for guys to get uncomfortable again.
Thank you, this was perfect stated. CSP had dudes scared to death to make a mistake. I want players to play scared of their coach but also respect him.

Yeah. Funniest stuff I've ever read

Rizzi might if we give him a clone of Drew Brees in his prime. Why do people ignore who the QB 's were when evaluating HC's

Don't buy into the BS. Mickey already knows who he wants to hire. That is why he is trying to knock out the Rooney checkbox quickly early this week but the weather conditions are gonna delay it a few days.

Yep. Crystal clear to anyone paying close attention to how these things tend to work.

There is a reason why suddenly, once Detroit got eliminated and Glenn’s plans became clear that we immediately moved to get these two specific in-person interviews done.

And who knows, they very well may like the candidates, but we’d be lying to ourselves if we don’t acknowledge that there is an intentional administrative purpose to this and checkbox that we need to get executed asap, and that these two fit the bill.
