Article Demario Davis: "Saints are on the cusp" (2 Viewers)

Like Sam Darnold on pretty much his last chance this year? Like old Joe Flacco last year? Like a washed Russell Wilson? Like Geno Smith? Like Baker Mayfield at a time when he no longer looked like he belonged in the NFL?

Should I continue?

We are not far away from the team that went 9-8 despite even that year being injury-riddled.

The bottom fell out this year, but why are people acting like our injuries or losing our starting QB for several games is no big deal?
What you pointed out were quarterback changes, is that correct? It wasnt the incumbent QB finally deciding after 12 years that he wants to decide to win after losing his whole career.

But also teams with limited ceilings, any pop in a given year wont be sustained or lead to playoff success.

Oh so now we are back to team/playoff success all being on the QB? I was told in the McCarthy threads it was all about the head coach and the program he creates, so I’m a little confused.

Carr has played on a lot of bad football teams for a lot of bad head coaches, wouldn’t you agree?

I love DD but we need upgrades and depth everywhere. Yeah if we throw our best 22 out there we can hang with nearly everyone. But like someone else said in another thread. Seasons are getting so long that the team you start with isn’t even close to the team you end with.

At least you acknowledge that our lineup really ain’t that bad. It’s very capable.

It’s always a war of attrition. Even the teams people envy, like the 49ers, are doomed when they get a ton of key injuries.

Teams are not stacking full two-deeps nor is there some gigantic disparity in how much our backups are paid compared to other teams.

It’s about who gets hurt and when. We stay reasonably healthy, we can beat virtually anyone, assuming Moore is the real deal, which is another major key.

This is the same guy that said in the offseason that Chase Young could be a defensive player of the year candidate. There is a fine line between confidence and just straight up lying to people. This borderlines delusion more than just confidence.
Careful. Mods gave me a warning from a harmless meme, and I didn't call him delusional.

This might get you in trouble on here.

In the conference round of playoffs this year, they had the following teams: Bills, Chiefs, Commanders and the Eagles. These were the top 4 teams at the end. Even if the Saints were healthy, they would have probably not made it that far into the playoffs and maybe not even made it at all. Sorry, but we just don't have the roster to compete against the elite teams. I appreciate your optimism, but the Saints are not there yet. Not even close.

Bro, when we were (mostly) healthy we literally lost to the Eagles due to one fluke play, and when we were very unhealthy lost to the Commanders by only a failed two point conversion. 😂

Personally, the only way this team competes this year is if we have unbelievable luck with health, have a great draft, and in FA/Draft we can address our LG, Safety, CB, DE, WR, DT, TE & LB positions.

Agreed. This is the direction I want. Grab the “Team identity building” player now, focus on everything else the rest of the way and sign a reasonably-priced impact G in free agency (got my eye on Mekhi Becton). Get Taysom Hill healthy.

A good running game in this league could mask a lot.

Taysom, AK, and Jeanty could win you a lot of games churning up yardage and time of possession, not to mention the impact it would have on the playaction game.

I also look forward to the deployment of the Tush Push cheat code in short yardage.

I truly think this is the way. Build your run game.
Jeanty cannot bust like Kendre though. He'll have to be a day one hit the ground running starter. Then when AK is ready to hang it up, then Kendre is there. Ofc we may need a third down back and even a hybrid full back/big running back as well. Like you said, get great at something then build around it. Just tossing patches around just makes you average.

I think a slower Demario Davis is still better than most MLBs in the league. He will get beat more often than we are used to but he’s still balling most of the time.

FWIW, he had a career-high 136 tackles this past season.
right, just play him until the wheels fall off. He's earned that. He's the only full time every down player we can do that with.
