Dennis Allen on Graham being inactive earlier in the season: “Let’s start focusing on what we need to do moving forward" (3 Viewers)

This is his way of not throwing Carmichael under the bus. I'm sure in a perfect world he would have liked to allow Pete the freedom to make all the decisions and be a minor league version of Sean. He just hasn't been and Allen has to ride this out.

My pet theory is that maybe management wanted Graham signed and to have a spot on the 53 against a reluctant DA’s wishes, and he kept him inactive out of protest until someone and/or recent player injuries forced his hand.

I don't think he understands what a head coach does

Hard for me to envision an NFL team burning a precious roster spot for this purpose, especially on a player that, while he was great here, he kind of burned bridges on the way out and wasn’t really thought of as “One of our own” anymore in every sense of the phrase.
Your 4th TE? a weekly inactive player, yeah that is the perfect spot for a guy who can play but is at the end of his career.

That's just it, and it's the thing that makes this not make sense.

Teams don't reserve bottom of the roster spots for 37 year olds who have no upside and don't play an on-field role or isn't a backup QB. It just flat out does not happen.

If i was the reporter that asked the initial question, i would’ve rephrased the question, ok, are gonna use him more going forward than you did previously now that you see he’s an answer to your RZ issues after having him inactive and barely playing despite him being a historically great RZ threat as your offense struggled in the RZ for much of the year and got next to no production from any other tight ends, AND after he made RZ offense look simple on the one pass you did throw to him back versus Green Bay?

FIFY

Releasing my inner-Bobby.

Reporter (probably): "Coach Allen, your head coaching record is 21-45. Looking back, is there anything that you would do differently?"

Allen: "You know, I want to focus on one week at a time. We need to go 1-0 this week, or heck even 0-1 if I have a lot of wood to chop on Saturday. It is the time of year when I tend to chop more wood because it's getting cold outside. I don't remember how cold it was when I chopped wood for the Raiders or last season. So let's look forward to next week against the Giants and the pile of oak logs I have in my driveway. Next question."
Dennis the Chopper

It's almost comical how bad he is trying to emulate Sean Payton (i.e. "in our league", "the player", beginning a sentence with "Listen" or "Look") yet he is failing miserabley.
I swear I thought I was the only one that picked up on this. The cadence, the terms, etc. It's almost as if he practices in front of a mirror with old CSP clips playing in the background. I must admit, he's nailed it. (all except the winning part, as you mentioned).
