Derek Carr stayed and made sure everyone got an autograph at yesterday’s open practice (3 Viewers)

but after the first incomplete pass? you know its going to happen. Do you justify toxic booing as frustration? The Saints could be 7-2 and go three and out, and the fans will boo. Remember this, it’s widely known that the Superdome is the toughest home field advantage to play in, in ALL of sports. It could be like the Saints have 17 away games this year.
Do you remember the Bag head era?

Don't think I've seen too many SR members ever question his integrity or his loyalty to the community. We just at times have issues with his on-field decisions and passing accuracy. Glad to see him support the fan base and sign autographs.

Carr doesn’t need to embrace the city any more than he already has. Saints fans need to ease up on this “one of us” standard that they seem to drop on players.

Derek Carr has done charitable work in the city and meet and greets with fans since being here. What else is he supposed to do?

People seem to forget that the second the last minute of football was played each season - Drew Brees put his family on a plane and went to his “real” home in San Diego. Where is Drew, who embraced the city of New Orleans, living since the day he retired? San Diego.

Carr made the mistake of saying he ate Chipotle when he got to New Orleans and some people have legitimately used that against him since then.

I’ll say this, if I wasn’t from a city and had somewhere to be and had to grab a bite to eat, I sure would be looking for a chain restaurant that I recognized. I can also tell you with New Orleans reputation for crime, I sure as hell wouldn’t have wandered into some random local joint.

Carr seems like a genuine dude and he’s better than any of the abysmal QBs that have taken snaps since Drew left - by far. But he’s not “one of us” (whatever that means) so he gets crapped on by a segment of the fan base. It’s sad.

Carr got the tar beaten out of him last season and all he did was get up every time, beaten and battered and played because he wanted to win and bring the Saints to the playoffs. He doesn’t owe the city anything else.

I do and it was an embarrassment for our fan base. We were the laughing stock of the NFL for it.
And I remember reading multiple posts on this very forum last season pondering if we as fans should go back to it.

For a .500 team that was in division title contention all season… not an 0-12 team staring down the barrel of yet another defeat, with this one to come on Monday Night Football.

We’d have immediately become a laughingstock again if people had made good on it.

absolutely. This is when the fans love/hate relationship developed. There's a fine line and it'll take just one incomplete pass for fans to cross it, this year. There's already too much Saints hate out there that even success wont cure. Interestingly, i read a comment from an old fan dissing a younger fan, saying, "do you even know the Saints history? Before Benson bought the Saints, the Saints were a gambler and bookie team" This comment, which he said with authority, inferred that the Saints were taking dives every game to satisfy bets in the early days. Considering their record on those years seems to justify that comment. Can any of you verify this?

Playing like a great QB would turn a lot of the criticism around. But it's not just about his play on the field, which was very good in the last 7 games. If it was, Winston wouldn't be so popular with the fan base. He was certainly never a great QB on the field but we embraced him because he was fun, a good locker room guy, and has a great personality. The same is somewhat true of Bridgewater. Truth is that Carr is likely better than Winston and certainly better than Bridgewater, but those guys never got the heat that Carr gets.
Is he really better though?

Same results, actually worse - if you ask me

Teddy B 5-0
JW 5-4

He's just perceived as better but needs more around him to be just as good because he's a percieved franchise QB. It is what it is though.

I don’t believe in W-L record as a quarterback’s stat, but in games Derek Carr started and finished in 2023, the Saints went 9-5

8-5...he didn't finish the atlanta game :) but that's an Interesting take on it....so we're not attributing losses where he went out while he's behind to him?
Probably just an oversight. "We're" not giving Carr credit for a win when he left with a lead in Green Bay.

I would ask how many seasons it'll take some fans to let go of Winston, but they've already got Rattler on deck to rinse and repeat.

Hey but you know what...let's keep throwing new stuff in for Derek Carr, maybe he just might win something for what would be the 2nd time in his what 9-10 year career.

What's the old saying... "2 out of 9 ain't bad"?

But hey he's earned the leeway...he won at every other level he played at....just gotta get winning in that tricky NFL down because everyone remembers how much of a powerhouse Fresno St was back in his day
