Derek Carr stayed and made sure everyone got an autograph at yesterday’s open practice (5 Viewers)

No one is saying Carr is an All-Pro. I just don't think booing him (ESPECIALLY early in the season) is not productive. It's a subjective and personal thing but I don't think it helps the team. Sure, maybe the Saints are closing out the season with only a handfull of wins and its clear he isn't the answer and that Loomis/Allen need to be fired, then boo away. I'm just worried some hot head fans come out of the box booing and creating ill will between the team and the fan base. The Brees/Payton hangover is very real and it's hitting me too.

Hey but you know what...let's keep throwing new stuff in for Jameis, maybe he just might win something for what would be the 3rd* time in his what 9-10 year career.

What's the old saying... "2 out of 9 ain't bad"?

But hey he's earned the leeway...he won at every other level he played at....just gotta get winning in that tricky NFL down because everyone remembers how much of a powerhouse Florida St was back in his day
And tell me what's significantly different about this picture, exactly? You don't like when the yardsticks are equally applied though, do you?

*Also worth nothing that a winning record next year would be Carr's fourth, not second...

Is he really better though?

Same results, actually worse - if you ask me

Teddy B 5-0
JW 5-4

He's just perceived as better but needs more around him to be just as good because he's a percieved franchise QB. It is what it is though.

I think he is. I don't think Carr is a franchise QB and I'm not sure who really does, but I think he's around #15 and that can go up or down a little depending on how good the team around him and the scheme he is in are. I think both Winston and Bridgewater had much better teams around them when they got those wins. And a better Head Coach too. They were both either bottom end starters or good backups IMO. But, things might have been different for both of them. If Bridgewater had not destroyed his leg he might have been much better. And had Winston not spent all those years in that Bruce Arians excuse for an offense, he may have learned how to play QB and been much better.

And the truth is W/L record isn't a QB stat.

Same way you wouldn't blame a prominent backup for failing to close out a game with a 17-0 lead, I suspect...
I 1000000% blame that one on Pete Carmichael, who coached the offense post-Carr departure like he was trying to win a game of football being played in 1923 instead of 2023

8-5...he didn't finish the atlanta game :)
Yes he did - sending in the backup to kneel the game out means he finished the game well enough

but that's an Interesting take on it....so we're not attributing losses where he went out while he's behind to him?
I’m attributing those to “welp, the starter’s out, we’re cooked” - not a whole lot of winning with the backup happening leaguewide. Wasn’t sure I’d have to specify this, because the point is that the team didn’t win any games he left due to injury. Pedantry isn’t my thing :gosaints:

Consider the source

I think Carr is a very good QB, and one that hasn’t really seen his best place yet. He succeeded in Oakland which isn’t an easy thing to do. He comes here and turns in a respectable year, all things considered last year. He is a great guy personally. I wish the best for him and I do believe he can keep us in the playoffs for a lot of years. But I’ve never gotten the “it” factor to be the man for the Super Bowl. If he gets the saints there it will be as a complimentary piece, not as the man. That’s my opinion. But I also don’t think there are 15 QBs better. Maybe 7

Was not a Carr fan when he was a Raider and was very “me” when we signed him but optimistic. His first year here I wasn’t impressed but seems there was a lot more going on. I hope he does well here. We need a good QB badly.
It was shaky at first. He was borderline great the last 10 weeks. I’ll take that Carr for the entire season, hopefully we get that.

I do think it's an issue when the report on your starting QB says he needs a clean pocket to be effective.

As much as that's true for any QB to an extent, the disruptive ability of NFL defenses means you're not always/often going to get that clean pocket. If that limits his effectiveness significantly, we're going to see a game changing impact at some point, particularly against better opposition.

Whether the new scheme can sufficiently mitigate that issue in his game, while installing multiple new linemen, is a key factor to watch for, in my opinion.

What is crazy is he has the 22nd highest QBR under pressure in NFL history. He's thrown the 12th most TD's under pressure in NFL history but has also thrown 11th most picks under pressure in NFL history behind Manning, Brees, Brady, Big Ben, Rivers, Ryan, Montana, Warner, Romo and Cousins.

Which I know there is way more to the story than statmuse, but just using that as a basis.
