Derek Carr won’t take a pay cut for 2025 but willing to restructure to help the cap (97 Viewers)

I don't have a problem with what he said. No one and I mean all of you would not like to take a pay cut either. But both parties have to do what they have to do. All that matters is what's best for the team going forward. The new coach and the draft will be telling to see what direction this team will take.

Here’s a question for everyone, assuming there was no cap hit implication and contract aside, say that doesn’t matter, do you still feel it’s the best to ride with Carr next season?

Based on the available QB options, certainly. Who's available that are better than Carr? I can't think of any.

Minshew went 2-7 as a starter threw 9 TDs and 10 Interceptions with the raiders this year
Carr is 14-13 as a starter with 40TDs and 13 Ints as a Saint

Cutting Carr to sign Minshew is about the dumbest thing a GM could do and would merit getting himself fired.

Bro, I just don’t get it. How can a fanbase hate a guy so much?

I’m fully convinced that some people just don’t watch any other games to be able to understand that Carr is solid.

The fact that someone actually comped Minshew to him all but confirms it.

Unreal.

Carr is being held to a standard matched only by all-time NFL greats by many people here. Any negative play he has gets magnified to disproportionate levels.

Honestly why would he?!? I hate to hurt the feelings of the Carr haters but $30 million is a bargain these days for a starting QB. Has anyone seen what they are paying Tyreek Hill in Miami to whine? It’s time to move on and be thankful. The guy may not be Mahomes or Allen but then the Saints are not paying him like a Mahomes or Allen.

The most sensible post of the day!

The only way you kick his contract can down the road is if he's in it. Don't make an immediate foolish move, but don't drag this thing out. Post June 1 cut if ya gotta.

Who is going to take his place…..Rattler?
Any one year bridge vet. Team is going suck anyway. Better to get on with taking the medicine and positioning for the 2026 draft where there are better QB prospects. Why not just stick with Carr, you say? Cuz he's just good enough to keep us mid (7-10 to 9-8). A selling point to a new coach is to get moving toward the future ASAP.

Because he's mid AND arrogant. Not a good combo for any career choice, especially a team-based career.

Zero issues with what he said. Fact is, we don't have any wins without him. That isn't a speculation, its a fact

I think his contract is fine. The question is, are we in a position in 2025 that it makes sense to pay it. I personally believe this is the time to do a hard reset and trade off players for draft picks.

I would love to trade Carr and his contract to a team who needs him and get draft picks in return. Then, you let Rattler show what he can do. He either proves to be QB of the future or you struggle and draft Arch Manning (or hot QB flavor of the month) after a rebuild season. You take the extra draft picks and try to build a new young core.

I don’t know if Carr would be open to trade and I don’t know how much it would help our cap if any…but it seems like the best possible outcome.
