Derek Carr won’t take a pay cut for 2025 but willing to restructure to help the cap (17 Viewers)

Does that really help the team tho?
Lol well that’s a whole other discussion.

If we are staying with Carr, it helps us financially of course. I don’t see anyway he isn’t with us moving forward. However, if we hire Rizzi or someone like that who’s just a lame duck coach I’d like us to find a way to bite the bullet and just move on.

All I think about is it just really sucks for players like AK. He’s committed to being here and we just aren’t truly committed to putting a real winner on the field or haven’t had a coach in a while that can help Loomis do that.

What player says yes to this question? How many players even get asked this question?
Drew Brees took a pay cut right before retirement. I would’ve had zero issues if Drew wanted to take his money.

The only thing that bothers me about DC4’s comment, is what he said about “What I’ve put on tape”. I wouldn’t have said that if I were him, but to each their own

I don’t think he played poorly at all, just don’t think he’s going to take this team anywhere. Also don’t think he’s the future.

Fair, my point is that this isn’t a player, like most if not virtually all of his peers, who is going to be all “Yipee, I will take a paycut to help my team!” when asked this sort of question.

Carr knows the people that wanted him and signed him are gone. He knows the fan base has had it in for him from the beginning. He knows the team is in a bad position financially and will have to guarantee him more money to get under the cap before March 15th when $40 mil will be guaranteed automatically. And that the team can't do much about it. Loomis did this and will have to suck it up and either admit that the team is clearing cap all in one year or tuck his tail and pay the man. Carr acts all nice, churchy and clean, but he knows exactly what he's doing.

Would you said the same thing about Nick Foles, Brad Johnson, Trent Dillfer, Joe Flacco, Jimmy Garopplo, Kaepernick, Rex Grossman, Matt Hasselback, Jake Delhomme , Rich Gannon, Kerry Collins, Brock Purdy???

Is that enough names??? I never understand how people can say a QB will NEVER take us anywhere when there are so many examples of non elite QBs making it and winning the SB

You truly believe that we will make the Super Bowl with Carr? Good on ya then.

Keep the straw man, those QB’s had much better TEAMS.than we have. That’s the difference. I took no shot at Carr.

Taking a pay cut is not expected really. I just hope we can find a way to not extend/restructure him so we can move on in another year.

For me, there is nothing wrong with holding the Saints to the contract they signed with him.

I think he should take a cut and it’s not about his play. It’s about his inability to stay healthy. We’ve lost every game he’s missed or gotten knocked out of the past two years except the giants game where he got knocked out with a lead and under two mins to play. It’s a credit to him that we can’t win without him but the injuries are too frequent for him to be getting full pay.

Media wise I think he should’ve handled it the way Cam did. “Talk to my agent.”

If anybody on the team took a paycut that would be an unexpected gift. It shouldn't be expected. We also shouldn't expect a bunch of roster turnover. Any turnover would be a two year process. So asking to cut our players and tear it down isn't realistic. Doesn't matter who our coach or even gm is.

Settle in for a similar roster. Hopefully we get some value FAs, a good draft and maybe some injury luck for once.

Does say he is willing to restructure. Maybe that would be helpful enough.
They mostly all would restructure. They get more of their money now. Restructuring helps the team now, but hurts the player in no way. It hurts the team in later years though once the player is gone and you are still counting money for him, ex. Jameis Winston
