Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

Plot twist - the organization doesn’t have the cash flow available to afford Rodgers (or Carr for that matter), in addition to not being able to afford to fire Josh McDaniels the way they wanted to.
They are going to look really stupid unless the plan is for Brady to I unretire

As a Raider fan I have watched Carr`s every snap the last 9 years. Below is a BR college scout report on Derek Carr and I can honestly tell you it is still dead on today:

  • Footwork needs improvement; he often retreats from pressure and throws off his back foot. Needs to step into his throws more consistently.
  • Poor decision-making under duress.
  • Average pocket presence with wavering poise and unrefined pocket movement.
  • Stares down his intended target. He needs to improve eye discipline.
  • Too often appears to be flustered by pressure. Can be quick to flee the pocket.
  • Inconsistent mechanics, has a tendency to lock his lower half and throw with his arm alone.
  • Struggles when his receivers’ routes are disrupted.
  • Often late to recognize the blitz. (this one doesnt apply)
  • Operated almost exclusively out of shotgun with four or five receiver sets.
  • Not an anticipatory thrower.
  • Will not hurt defenses on the ground. He has enough mobility to get by but is not much of a running threat.
  • Hangs his receivers out to dry at times.
  • Does not appear to see the field very well, throwing into double-teams occasionally.
  • Struggled with top competition. College career ended on a lousy note as he was erratic
I would add: Horrible PA fakes, almost non existent........ and plays poorly in cold weather

In Raider forums the last 9 years, there are always Carr fans saying, "Carr just needs...." the excuses are endless.

The most frustrating part is he physically has all the tools to be great but he lacks the mental toughness to override his fear of contact. He has zero pocket awareness and more than once fumbles the ball before actual contact in self preservation. He rarely hits a receiver in stride (see bullet point 10)

At best, he can be a mediocre game manager as long as his salary is consistent with that.

At worst, a $40 million/yr liability that needs a top 3 surrounding cast everywhere around him so he can be carried.

Good luck

PS: If Carr ends up here, you also adopt his dysfunction brothers Darren and David and the Ca Central Valley Carrdashians/Carrsaders that will infiltrate your foru
Where can I find that BR scouting report because it's the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen on a 1st rd QB LOL it pretty much says he does nothing right and suffers from what most good QBs do . How can a QB that has that many flaws throw for over 4000 yards many times throw for 99TDs and have TD to INT % of 2.0 and a QBR of 91.8? SMH

I never said that he was a good coach. I don't know one way or the other. But, I'm not holding anything against anyone for what they did at Oakland, especially for someone with so little experience at the time. Going by his first year as the Saints HC, he had a very good draft. Allen deserves some credit for that. But, was that just a blind squirrel finding a nut, or is Allen + Ireland pretty good at getting talent? There's not a big enough sample set to know that. We at least know that DA is better at drafting QBs than Payton. :D

I think his coaching hires were pretty good last year and this year. I'm not sure keeping Pete was a good decision. But, Pete has success before so I don't know if it was a bad decision, either.

I didn't like how he handled the QB situation. But, if the players would have had an issue with how he handled that, we'd know by now from Underhill or MT. So, I'm guessing there's more to the story than has been leaked to the public.

So, there are some things to be encouraged about, and some things to be discouraged about. We each choose which we want to focus on.

I might be in the minority, but I'm looking forward to the draft and next season. Maybe next season sucks, but I'm not go into next season with the idea that next season is going to suck no matter what because DA is the HC, until it does.

If you can't find reasons to be positive as a fan in the offseason before any games have been won or lost, it kinda sucks being a fan.
My guess is that Ireland and ML were way more in charge of the draft than in the SP days

Saints: Carr
Jets: Rodgers
Raiders: Jimmy G.
My guess.
The longer Carr goes without inking a deal, the longer I think the deal was done during the visit and the deleted tweet from his brother was directed by Derek

Why would they do it any differently than they did before? And, I certainly don't want Loomis deciding who the Saints draft.

But even if it is the case, it's probably a good thing - not because of DA, but Payton. Payton usually scouted round 1 and sometimes 2. And he didn't have a very good record drafting in the 1st round. Maybe the Saints do better without Payton picking a center when they desperately needed a WR.

The first draft was pretty good. Hopefully they keep it up, however they do it.

Thy would do things differently because SP had major input on the first 2-3 rds of the draft and I doubt that they would give DA in his 1st yr as HC that much say in it as SP

Well Allen had Carr in Oakland...and he still couldn't do it. What makes anyone think that getting them back together will yield different results?
Really? A rookie second round pick and DA played together 4 games. Do you think that second round rookie hasnt improved in 9 years? Considering he’s thrown for 35k yards and gone to multiple Pro bowls. He also has a high % of clutch time wins. Da since his stint in Oak, has put together a Super Bowl caliber defense for most of his time in NOLA. Now if you take these two people and put them on the same team, of course they'll yield different results.

The only arguments I’ve heard against DA and/or Carr, have been nonsensical or just plain fact-less opinions. Not one person could specifically prove with fact why DA is terrible and why Carr is as well. Otherwise it’s just fans venting their anger towards the Saints FO, because they are going through some uncertain times.

He also said our roster right now (which is incomplete and will change likely significantly from.....right now until the start of the season) is better (sans QB) than the 2009 roster that won a SB.....

That is enough for me to not take any post of his....seriously.....
Prove what you’re saying. Talk is cheap.
