Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (4 Viewers)

The '17 class is wasted...we missed our window. Now it's all about how much time we want to wait to find out that a losing head coach is a losing head coach.

You sign Carr to a 4/160ish and we suck...we're stuck sucking for the next 4 years. We draft a rookie and he's re-Ian Book, we dump him, move on to the next one without the financial constraint. Both are likely outcomes IMO and both result in DA getting canned but only one option hamstrings us for the future after DA.

Me? For 2023, I want DA to prove he can win with a "safe ball control" offense that "minimizes mistakes" with the QB he signed last offseason to run that offensive game plan - Andy Dalton
You talk about drafting a rook and if he does not work move on. That's almost certainly a 3 yr project to see if a rook QB is a bust, more if he's mediocre, wasting the prime yrs or the rest of a career of quite a few players.
Let's say we sign DC to a 4yr 32m a yr deal and next yr DA is horrible and get's fired we still have a good vet QB that the next HC ( hopefully an offensive-minded one) has to work with. DC has proven he can be very good with a good offensive-minded HC. We're ahead of the game. Either way in the next 2-3 yrs we can draft DC's replacement

It’s information we’ve all heard over and over again and largely agree with.

Let me use a football example so maybe you, @44slayer and others can understand. Let’s say we’re playing the Falcons and DA calls a zero blitz on 3rd and 18 in the first quarter. Bad decision and leads to a TD.

Now let’s say we’re in the 4th quarter of that same game and it’s tied. We have a 4th and 1 at midfield. A bunch of us want to discuss the strategy of whether it’s worth going for it? Or do you punt and pin them deep?

What you and others are doing is yelling at everyone “it doesn’t matter! DA called that zero blitz so no matter what he does now will be wrong anyway!!”

Can you see how pointless that is?

Thanks so much for trying to make me...."understand"....I mean is DA Saints ownership/management in this scenario? Because if not, it makes zero sense....

Because I have nothing, zero against DA, he is simply (thus far) a good DC but a failed HC, clinging to lifeline that Saints ownership/management gave him, for no good reason that I can see.

My ire is really directed towards Gayle Benson and Loomis.....and the folks that ridiculously try and defend DA's HC abilities because that is in effect, supporting their decision to keep him.....

I understand trying to make the best of a bad situation but the denial of the bad situation is what irks me as well....let me use a football example, you know, so you can "understand":

DA's got the defense, all we need is offense now....yeah!!!!

The truth of the matter is the D regressed, over the 1st half of the season we gave up almost 28 points per game. We were great against the pass, no doubt but we were also at the bottom of the NFL in generating turnovers and struggled most of the year against the run. They did play better the latter half of the season but overall I would say the defense regressed from 2021....because turnovers are important, they win games and when you don't get them consistently? It leads to 4-9....because at that point the season was over....

There is really no point in discussing any further, I'm cool with them getting Carr on like a 3 year deal in the hopes of getting a HC and offensive coaches that can maximize his abilities in 2024.....and allowing them to not be pressed to draft a QB right away....

Nick and Trip discussed where things seem to stand on their pod today.

I kinda agree with Mike. At this point, Carr likely has an offer from the Saints that won’t change much since we aren’t prioritizing Rodgers (or Jimmy G or apparently any of the other vets). So it kinda makes sense for them to play it out until that stuff shakes out.

On the flip side, if Carr is “looking” for $35 M, what is the Saints offer? $30? Less?

I'd rather the team stand pat with Jameis and adjusts the scheme than them ever spending any money on Jimmy G. Hell, I'd rather they keep Dalton than spend money on Jimmy G.

I still think it’s crazy the Jets are considering Rodgers. The Packers m, if they move him, are trying to dump a huge contract on anyone who will take it.

The Packers paid $42m for one year of Rodgers. They want someone to step in and pay him $60m this year (fully guaranteed). His 2024 earnings from a $47m option bonus become fully guaranteed five days after the 2024 Super Bowl, and everyone knows he won’t decide on whether to play in 2024 that quickly.

They paid $42m for one more run with Rodgers, they want someone else to pay the other $110m for two years. Big credit to them if they pull it off.

They got to. They’re in the same city as the Giants. It’s been over a decade since their last playoff appearance. They currently own the longest playoff appearance drought.
Rodgers will give them what they want most. Attention.

Carr heading to the combine to meet with teams. Guessing he’ll also bump in to Saints, Jets, etc.
