Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (2 Viewers)

Would be a great fit. Not sure I like the resource deployment though after we just spent a first round pick on Penning, but if they think TP can slide into the LG spot to replace Peat, it would definitely set us up nicely.

That was me just spitballing, but Lewan at LT while Penning gets spun up after his injury also works.

Still hope that we don’t sign Carr. I haven’t really researched the kind of offense that he has operated but I wonder if he is even a scheme fit. He could end up like Russell Wilson. I think he mostly operated a downfield matchup based offense with lots of play action. Can he really do better than Dalton in one of the most complicated offenses?

It’s still going to be vanilla.
When Gruden was the Raiders coach, they ran a system similar to Payton/Carmichael. Carr will have no trouble fitting our scheme.

Fair points. but I'm not a "just draft a QB" proponent. I want one, but I want the right one. And the folks who want to pass on all QBs this year, because NEXT year's crop is better....there's no guarantee that your favorite will even be available at the Saints draft slot next year. Just make the best possible decision you can make TODAY, based on the options available now.

Same can be said about FA signings. I believe DC4 is better than anything on the roster right now....he'd be an upgrade. but I'm not sure he's a franchise QB that it makes sense to tie up assets over a long-term. He's an above-average to good QB. I'll take that, for now. I can live with above-average to good, but what I REALLY want is elite. And just about every year, someone takes a QB who fits that description. Except the Saints (Archie Manning excepted). With that said, you miss 100% of the shots you never took.
I would pass on a 1st rd QB this yr because there are better ones next yr I don't see a real franchise QB in this draft. If I had a top 5 pick I would not use it on a QB , next yr? Probably. I would however take a flyer on Jake Haener in the late 3rd or 4th.
Other than maybe Jackson Carr is the best FA QB on the market that will fit the system PC wants to run. You talked about tying up assets for a long time. Let's say we sign DC to a 4yr deal at close to 30m a yr and next yr or 25 we draft what we think is gonna be our franchise QB ( you want elite guess what EVERYONE wants elite) he sits for a yr. If we have to move on from DC in 3 yrs we can eat what's left of his deal easily because we have our QB on a rookie deal. All the while the salary cap goes up and up to help pay for what's left of DC's deal. And you could be like the Jets or Browns and miss almost 100% of the shots you take

And here's the real story. There are perhaps 10 teams in the league that really need a quarterback. Houston and Indianapolis seem intent on drafting in the top four four picks (perhaps the top two picks) a quarterback, and it's possible that one or two other teams are looking to draft really high a quarterback. That still leaves six or so teams that badly need a quarterback. For those who think that Carr is a legitimate top 12 quarterback, why aren't teams other than the Saints and Jets showing a serious interest? The relative lack of interest indicates how most NFL teams grade him.
And the real possibility is that Carr has declined meeting with some of those six or so teams.

Teams can't make Carr meet with them and it's possible that Carr is being selective and looking for the right fit, like he has said he is.

It's possible that Carr is looking to get the highest bid he can from of a group of teams he's selected, instead of opening the bidding up to every team and going with the highest bid.

Or maybe nobody has contacted his agent. I seriously doubt a QB with no job would deny meeting with any possible employer, burning bridges. How would he know if the situation was right or wrong without meeting them? The same reasons for lack of interest of a certain QB a few seasons back, well those reasons count for Carr too.

You think a player has to meet with a team like the Browns, Texans, Bears, etc have to meet with those teams to know they're not a good fit?

All Carr has to know is who the OC is and what type of scheme they run. That right there will tell him some teams are not a good fit.

How long is every comment about any QB not named Winston going to be responded to with a thinly veiled complaint about how unfairly Winston is treated?

I've been on this board for over 20 years and I've never seen this level of cult devotion to any other Saints player, not even Brees, Brooks, Hebert, Manning, Jackson, Roaf, Evans, Mills, or Andersen.

I've been on this board for close to 20 and when it comes to black QBs, it's the same old story.
My "thinly veiled comment" is indicative of the MO here. A double standard. But hey, it is what it is right. Here's to a great season of Saints football.

Payton wanted to be in Green Bay, Reggie wanted to be anywhere but here. The list goes on and I'm completely okay with not being someone's first choice or where they wanted to go, because a lot of time they end up where they are needed and it's the best choice.
And then Sean Payton wanted to be in Denver, anywhere but here. Lol

I don’t know anyone here and I’m not saying this to anyone in particular. But I’ve noticed something after going back and forth with people about JW vs Carr and reading other people doing the same. I’ve concluded: Sometimes the world changes and YOU have to adjust. Or you risk sounding like a bitter guy caught up in the past. or a paranoid conspiracy theorist. The fact that JW was our starter going Into last year should tell you something. I can’t speak for everyone, but I’m pretty damn sure this board would’ve been happy asF had we landed Watson last year, despite the fact he’s a known sexual predator. As Ironic as that is, it does prove that people (fans) want the best player on the field that gives the team the best chance of winning period end of discussion.

Well at least you finally said point blank what you think the issue is.

I can't speak for other posters, but my lack of confidence in Winston has nothing to do with him being black, so there's zero justification for anyone to respond to me under the false assumption that my lack of confidence in Winston is because he's black..

Believe me or don't. The choice is yours.

Thanks for posting.

Really feels like we are the only ones ready to do a deal, Loomis refuses to bid against himself and Carr and his reps are gonna wait as long as they can to see if competition materializes (but not so long that the Saints move on to another option).
