Exactly; when it became apparent that Jameis wasn't going to play "for reasons," I was all for Taysom going out because let's face it, with Dalton, the offense only moved when the run game got going.

If you paid attention last season, after it became clear that Winston wouldn't be playing, a lot of us Winston supporters also wanted Taysom to start instead of Dalton. Taysom is fine in spot duty (his passing last season was the best I've seen from him), but I worry about his durability over the course of a season.

Yall just cult members.

That might be true, but whenever someone comments about any QB not named Hill or Winston, you don't see a barrage of responses complaining about how unfairly Hill is treated. It doesn't happen with any other QB either. It only happens with Winston.

I see 8 teams that need a QB: Indy, Hou, Car, Jets, Raiders, Saints, Atl and TB. I´m not counting Washington since I believe they want to take a look at Sam Howell this year. Tennesee will probably be looking to move on from Tannehill next year, and they can still try and groom Willis.
Out of those 8 teams, Indy, Hou, are locks to take rookie QBs, and the third and fourth best could potentially be taken in the top 10 draft positions. In that case, Atl, Raiders and Car could potentially be looking at a rookie 1st round QB as well. You have to eliminate the Raiders from the "Carr sweepstakes" no matter what.
By this logic, the only teams that could really be interested in Carr (because they are not in range to draft a top tier rookie QB) are the Saints, Jets and Bucs.
So the market kind of checks out. Carolina could just be doing this to drive the price up for the Saints, I don´t see why they would be interested in Carr with a top 10 draft choice in their pocket and draft capital to move up.
And there is still the probability that Rodgers and Jackson get traded.
If the Saints are smart, they know that Carr doesn´t really have much of a market and they are offering him a team friendly deal, hence the hold up by Carr.

This is the way I see it also. I think Carolina is mostly a smokescreen by both sides. They have the draft capital to move up and get a rookie QB if they think one of them can be their guy. It makes ZERO sense for them to sign Carr to a 4-5 year deal when they can potentially get a cheap rookie for a couple of draft picks. The Jets very likely want Rodgers, but we won't know what his decision will be until he comes out of his latest Bat Cave. TB needs to be cheap this year and see what they can do, post-Brady. I think Atlanta will stand pat at QB or make a move for Lamar, who would take Atlanta by storm if they could sign him. Not sure if Fontenot wants to tie himself at the hip with Lamar, but it would be a heck of a ride until he gets hurt.

Loomis rarely bids against himself, he likely has a number for Carr and he has told Carr and his agent his number, he might move a little bit, but he likely won't overpay. My guess is in the $28-30 million range. Might look higher, but real money over 4 years average of maybe $30 million, but a five year deal with Loomis Voids to fill in the gaps on money.

I wish Winston would have worked out. I came close to doing a Prop Bet on Winston as Comeback Player of the Year AND MVP, but didn't do it. I did bet the Saints win total Over 7.5 because I thought Winston could do it. It will be interesting to see where he lands. It will VERY likely be a backup job somewhere. His best shot might be a team who has an injury prone QB, maybe Miami or wherever Lamar goes. I doubt any team thinks he is a viable QB1 right now. It's a shame, he throws a really nice pass.

I don't like the idea of drafting a rookie QB at #29, I just doubt there will be a starter at that range who can play in the next two years. First five picks, in no order, RB, RB, DT, WR, OG. Best player available in those positions, would really like to trade out of #29, pick up an early to mid #2 and another decent pick. I would go with "quantity" at RB this year UNLESS Bijan is there at #29.

I put a small free bet on Winston to win Comeback Player of the Year. BetMGM let that slip sit in my Open Bets all season long just to make me keep looking at it.

Yeah derek carr was the problem. This man has never had a defense better than 20 his entire time with the raiders. Also I think people forget in 2016 he was a mvp candidate before he hurt his back. You give him a top 10 defense like ours and much better oline he could be a top 10 quarterback again like he was in 2016. If we don't get him and he goes to the jets or another team and he does very well all I'm gonna say is I TOLD SO!!

I'm indifferent on Carr (mainly due to what he will probably cost us) but the defense argument really doesn't hold to much weight into why they lost. In most seasons where they had bad defenses, they were equally bad (or worst) on the offensive side of the ball (2017-2019 for sure). When you really go back and look at their actually scoring, it has probably been around 2 or 3 seasons where defense was legitimately THE reason they lost games and I know for sure that 2020 was one of those seasons because they were putting up POINTS but were still losing a lot of games by 2-3 scores. I would say copy what they did under Gruden in 2020, because that was probably the perfect mix.

Yup, I was in that camp.....TH can come in and win some games for you but his style of play does not lend itself to longevity.....I never considered him a long term solution at QB.....but my feeling is if he would have played instead of AD and managed to stay healthy we probably would have won more games.....

People said the problem with Allen was Oakland but was it? Many of us have already said "I told you so on DA but Loomis is willing to give him another year, so it is what it is. I think Carr is an upgrade over Dalton, but no one thinks he's elite. That's why no one is willing to break the bank on him and I hope we are not foolish enough to do so.
