Derek Carr world tour thread (updated with combine visits) (4 Viewers)

Seen this yesterday as well, and also seen they are in contract negotiations with Sam Darnold.

Jets/Saints truly think we should know something in a week for sure!
Either Carr or Darnold is getting leveraged by Carolina, not in a market price sense as much as “this option won’t be on the table for long.”

If they are confident they can get their guy in the draft, then obviously they are working on Darnold.

I like the thought process, the only problem with incentives is that a veteran like Carr will probably want LTBE incentives, which will complicate our ability to fit him under the cap. Better to just give him a few more bucks in a signing bonus to keep more space.

Fowler really sums up my feelings well. I truly believe we are his only offer, and it is much lower than he wants, and the agent is doing everything he can to get some competition into the fold for his client’s services.

The Jets are interested, but I get the sense they’re waiting out the Rodgers situation.

You think a player has to meet with a team like the Browns, Texans, Bears, etc have to meet with those teams to know they're not a good fit?

All Carr has to know is who the OC is and what type of scheme they run. That right there will tell him some teams are not a good fit.

How long is every comment about any QB not named Winston going to be responded to with a thinly veiled complaint about how unfairly Winston is treated?

I've been on this board for over 20 years and I've never seen this level of cult devotion to any other Saints player, not even Brees, Brooks, Hebert, Manning, Jackson, Roaf, Evans, Mills, or Andersen.
Lol. There are just as many Taysoms the answer fans out there

So why hasn't he signed with the Saints?

Is he hoping that the more teams that show a really serious interest the higher the contract he can get with the Saints? But it will take more than interviews--it will take offers to hike up the price tag.

Or is he hoping that another team, which he views as more attractive, will make an offer so he doesn't have to go to the Saints?

And here's the real story. There are perhaps 10 teams in the league that really need a quarterback. Houston and Indianapolis seem intent on drafting in the top four four picks (perhaps the top two picks) a quarterback, and it's possible that one or two other teams are looking to draft really high a quarterback. That still leaves six or so teams that badly need a quarterback. For those who think that Carr is a legitimate top 12 quarterback, why aren't teams other than the Saints and Jets showing a serious interest? The relative lack of interest indicates how most NFL teams grade him.
I see 8 teams that need a QB: Indy, Hou, Car, Jets, Raiders, Saints, Atl and TB. I´m not counting Washington since I believe they want to take a look at Sam Howell this year. Tennesee will probably be looking to move on from Tannehill next year, and they can still try and groom Willis.
Out of those 8 teams, Indy, Hou, are locks to take rookie QBs, and the third and fourth best could potentially be taken in the top 10 draft positions. In that case, Atl, Raiders and Car could potentially be looking at a rookie 1st round QB as well. You have to eliminate the Raiders from the "Carr sweepstakes" no matter what.
By this logic, the only teams that could really be interested in Carr (because they are not in range to draft a top tier rookie QB) are the Saints, Jets and Bucs.
So the market kind of checks out. Carolina could just be doing this to drive the price up for the Saints, I don´t see why they would be interested in Carr with a top 10 draft choice in their pocket and draft capital to move up.
And there is still the probability that Rodgers and Jackson get traded.
If the Saints are smart, they know that Carr doesn´t really have much of a market and they are offering him a team friendly deal, hence the hold up by Carr.

Depends on the question for me... If the question is... Do you wanna win, and don't care how it looks? Then yes... He is the answer. LOL

My issue with your argument is not the result but yet the sample size. Correlation vs Causation of the wins was the game won because of Taysom Hill starting or was the broncos starting a WR as QB? Whats your thoughts on Lamar Jackson then?

Agreed, I'd like to see a larger sample size... and Lamar wins and is a beast (45-16) He has injury and longevity concerns, but so does every NFL player (some more than others obviously)... That risk has to be balanced out in the contract details.. but that doesn't concern me as much with Taysom since he's not the long term solution at QB... and I see him as the win now option that gets us to the future at QB. And to clarify further... I don't think the Saints will ever give Taysom the sample size at QB I am looking for... but that doesn't mean I don't think it's the right thing to do in our current situation.

I don't think anyone has said that Taysom is the long-term answer. Some of us would like to have seen him get a better shot to develop at just being a QB in order to be the guy over the next few years until the Saints could hopefully get their next legitimate franchise QB. Taysom has had only one off-season in which he fully prepared to be a QB and the last time he started a game with a legitimate #1 WR (you could even argue a legitimate #1 or #2 WR) on the field with him was December 2020 (before the aforementioned full QB off-season). Yet Winston supporters want to act as though Taysom has topped out (which is 100% their right to believe) but then they want to try to peddle excuse #1,638 why Winston should get another shot and still be the starter for the Saints.

Oh and also neither Taysom or Winston can get it done. Both boosters are blind to that fact for some reason. Taysom can atleast run the ball 12 on 12 but he’s a scheme guy not a behind the Center 24/7 guy.

We need a new QB, Carr would be a great fit. May just have the input with PC to get the offence rolling.

If you paid attention last season, after it became clear that Winston wouldn't be playing, a lot of us Winston supporters also wanted Taysom to start instead of Dalton. Taysom is fine in spot duty (his passing last season was the best I've seen from him), but I worry about his durability over the course of a season.

Exactly; when it became apparent that Jameis wasn't going to play "for reasons," I was all for Taysom going out because let's face it, with Dalton, the offense only moved when the run game got going.

Also because we knew Taysom would try at least something instead of taking a three yard checkdown on 3rd and 11.
