I'm really skeptical of this.

if they would have taken the call about their spaccrafts extended warranty, they wouldn't have been in that prediciment. So these aliens in advanced spacecraft travel zillions of miles across the galaxy and then crash as they get to Earth…
I'm really skeptical of this.
Maybe there have been thousands, or tens of thousands, or millions of alien craft visiting Earth over time and only a very small percentage have crashed in recent history. Maybe humans even shot some of them down, Grusch says that's a possibility/capability, and that could make sense especially if these craft started "crashing" in coordination with the advancement of Earthly military technology. It's fun to speculate about, anyhow. So these aliens in advanced spacecraft travel zillions of miles across the galaxy and then crash as they get to Earth…

Assuming he's telling the truth (which, for me, is no given)...Assuming Mr.Grusch is telling the truth, how mad does that really make you? We found the biggest discovery of human history and the first thought was to hide it and use it for military purposes, chase profits when you hire these supposed private contractor companies to analyze it rather than try to improve civilization as a whole by allowing more eyes to work on it.
There are so many smart people on this earth that would be chomping at the bits to get their hands on NHI tech and try to figure it out.

What you're describing is not happening in a vacuum. It's happening in a world in which (presumably) the U.S. is in a race, yet again, with China and Russia to learn, harness, develop, protect, and utilize these technologies for it's presumed survival, defense, and advancement.
Fear, greed, and lust for power have been entwined with the story of human existence from the beginning.
Add Religion.
You think the Catholic Church is prepared to say " yeah sorry we had all yall believing and tithing etc etc" ? and effectively give up the money and influence it has wielded since humans could write?
I don't really agree that this has any dire consequences for Catholic/Christian doctrine. Just like with the Copernican revolution or evolution, Christian theology would eventually morph/adapt (despite its more rigid sects being left behind and eventually dying off). The Bible itself is full of that sort of thing. Maybe that's all for a different thread.Add Religion.

That's exactly what would happen...but it would be ironic if our alien overlords sent missionaries to convert the human population to their religion(s).I don't really agree that this has any dire consequences for Catholic/Christian doctrine. Yes, religion has a habit of moving the goalposts whenever something contrary to their belief is proven or provided. I'm thinking that the line would be "God created the universe and inhabited it with beings after his image, but his image is always changing and is perceived differently by many.".I don't really agree that this has any dire consequences for Catholic/Christian doctrine. They may feel compelled to "save the heathens". We may all fall victim to their version of smallpox. That's exactly what would happen...but it would be ironic if our alien overlords sent missionaries to convert the human population to their religion(s).
