Denver is dropping off my radar more each week at the moment. Not saying that couldn't change but right now

In 2019 when the rumor was, he is going to Dallas, and he signed the extension and gave an interview about how much he loved the City and Franchise. (BS) Then from the moment he retired, he spoke publicly about returning to coaching, even citing teams that were in (arguably) good situations as HIS top choices, such as the Chargers and Cowboys. I donāt understand why everyone has just been cool with this, seems extremely scummy. If he was burnt out, I think it would have been more than a year to recharge his batteries. As fans we do not owe him anything for doing his job. He was under contract he owed the team. Unlike players Coaches contracts are fully guaranteed, unless you quit. So yes, I feel like a dumped lover. I hope he goes 0-17 not just for the draft pick but I'm PO'ed
I do believe his stint in Denver will tarnish his legacy.
Yes .
Surprised by the high percentage of No's.
I read most of the posts. A pretty lot of bitter feelings. My thought is centered around what euphoria Payton brought to New Orleans and every Saints fan. And for how long our team was relevant. Under Payton.
Yes -- we had down years with him. But it wasn't always his fault. And never ONLY his fault. He had his weaknesses as head coach. And we let him have it here on
saintsreport.com when he showed those weaknesses. Even called for his head.
But the man repeatedly turned the Saints around. And except for being robbed by refs/Goodell, the Saints and Payton should have two more Super Bowl trophies -- at least.
Did Payton do us wrong by the way he left the city? Perhaps. But the coach is human.
I don't hold anything against him. For what he brought to New Orleans and the fans, and because he is an upstanding man, I want the best for him. I will never forget our glory days that lasted years. We owe Payton for that period. And yes -- I care if he has a rough time in Denver. I want to see him succeed there.
And he has a former Super Bowl-winning Pro-Bowl QB who best years were in Seattle and sort of came out of his prime years about 3-4 years ago and can be categorized as maybe decent-to-good in his best games. Payton's Broncos, even if they do improve substantially (and they likely will) over the next year or so, well simultaneously, I don't see either Kansas City or L.A. Chargers regressing either because both of their MVP-CALIBER QB's will continue to evolve and if anything, become more deadlier, potent offensive weapons. He's in a much, much tougher, competitive division than what he usually had to deal with and contend against as it related to other NFC South teams throughout most of his Saints HC tenure. Aside from playing against a rapidly declining, past his prime Tom Brady Bucs, the closest thing to a HOF QB Payton had to contend with, constantly devise schemes against for over a decade-long period was Falcons' Matt Ryan in the NFC SouthI mean, in the grand scheme of things, heās a guy having a hard time on his new job. There are opportunities for improvement and itās still early in the season.
And, maybe he wanted a rebuild project. I think he walked into this one with his eyes open, understanding that the Broncos were not going to be an immediate contender. Additionally, he took a job in the same division where two other starting QBs are light years better than his.
