Doug Nussmeier is Offensive Coordinator , Saints officially finalized hire per Underhill (18 Viewers)

Carr was a much more proven QB than Darnold or Mayfield ever were before they signed. DC would have never signed for that nor should he should have.
True, but he was a more established mid-tier, nothing special. DA undervalued the position from the beginning.

Why is it you seem to always want the unproven guy and think there is more upside than a guy that has had success at the position? Staley is a great defensive mind. Parker has never called a D play before. Staley took the Rams D from 17 to #1 in 1 yr. And all this talk about how they had great players , the only great player they had was Darnold, and he was there the yr before. They had Darnold , Ramsey and Floyd and that;s really it

Because I think we are currently in a position to bet on upside instead of looking for just something solid. That opinion would change if we were already a contending team that just needs a little tweak to be a championship team.

But you clearly are ignoring the posts I have made recognizing the advantages of hiring Staley.

I'm fine with Staley as DC, but I also see some advantages with going with a younger guy with upside. Truth is that none of us know these guys and none of us know who is the right fit for this team.

And he was paid as an established mid-tier. His contract when he signed it was the appropriate amount for a QB of his level.

Darnold and Baker, at that time, could only hope to get to at least Carr’s level. Baker especially was a guy that was hanging onto his career by a thread before he found the right fit on what was likely his last chance.

With the new announcement of Nuss as OC, you have a real shot at winning. Any other OC I would put big odds against you. But now with Garret Nuss in the 2026 draft and Doug Nuss as OC, its very possible we cut Carr, eat as much cap as possible and roll with Rattler for a year or two.

In fact, if they really do want to draft his son next year, it makes zero sense to roll with Carr for this coming season from a contractual sense and draft pick position sense.
A father coaching his son in professional sports is a recipe for disaster. That can never go well. Performance can never be assessed neutrally. That's a locker room divider. For sure

The biggest advantage for us hiring Staley, is that he’s less likely to be poached. Whereas if Parker improves our D to top 5 ranking, he’ll be gone immediately

Nepo baby central, but i dont really mind.. whole League is kinda that way.. plus, it seems to be the family business with a lot of these guys.. if someone owns a tow truck company and passes it on to their kid to run, that kid’s a nepo baby too.. just facts .

Hell, we used to have a literal Lombardi on our staff not that long ago .
Haslett yes, but Nuss earned his coaching credentials.

Can we tap the brakes at this moment on Garrett and Arch?

Garrett needs to take a big step next year. Period. Let's revisit his trajectory and draft stock in-season next fall.

With everything you know about the Mannings, their family wealth, their legacy, their process, I would not expect Arch to see the draft without first starting at least 2 seasons and possibly 3 seasons of college ball.

Paintin' became the starter in the 4th game of his freshman year after injuries to the guys ahead of him (including Rockies' star Todd Helton). He started the next three years and graduated.

Eli redshirted, started for 3 years and graduated. Peyton and Eli attended 4 years of college each. It made a difference in their maturity entering the league.

Arch early enrolled in winter 2023, played a little in 2023 and kept his redshirt. He started a few games last season when Quinn was nursing his sprained fallopian tube.

Stop trying to rob Arch of his precious college years. Leave My'Manning alone.

Surely the goal of the DC hire is to get someone who will give us the best chance at a top ranking defense. I hope, at least, that Moore doesn’t choose the person he thinks is second best just because he’ll have him longer.

Are you saying that because Staley was so terrible at being a HC that no one would give him a chance even if he did field a top 5 D? Whereas with Parker if HE got us a top 5 D they would pull the trigger because he’s never been a failed HC? There’s plenty of instances of successful coordinators not getting HC jobs after 1 year, just as there’s plenty of instances of failed HC’s getting another opportunity.

I just don’t think you prioritize the likelihood of having them in a year or two over how good you think that coach can be.

If Moore chooses Staley; I really hope it’s because he thinks the biggest advantage of hiring him is because he is the best DC for the job.

No in terms of player and coach. But coach and coach we have. Sometimes it's worked out great, others not so much. And one scenario it was a disaster (that was in college at Iowa with HC being father and OC being son).

We have seen coach and player son in college though. KU basketball's coach Bill Self had his son on the team for a couple of years. No problems.

I'm an LSU and Saints fan, and I can't understand the notion of drafting GN at this point.....right now, he may be a mid round pick and some folks are acting like he already took a Burrow/JD type leap.....same with Arch Manning, dude hasn't played a full college season yet.....ridiculous at this point.....

We should have a very QB friendly system for our QBs this coming year with HC Moore, OC Nussimier, QBC Tolzien running the O.
The 2025 season will be interesting & hopefully fun to watch!

Can't compare it. QB is something different. That may work with a LB, maybe with a DE or a WR. I don't think this will work with a QB. There's only one and I don't see a scenario where a father says to his boy "sorry son, you don't have it". Next thanksgiving would be something special...
