Doug Nussmeier is Offensive Coordinator , Saints officially finalized hire per Underhill (18 Viewers)

If Carr goes to a different team and as others have stated...
I see Cooper Rush being brought in to fight it out with Rattler & Haener for the starting QB position.

Rush is a UFA & he will not cost as much to bring in.
If we cut Carr, we will really be on a tight salary cap budget for 2025.

I agree with most of this. I feel like this is the time to take bold risks and try to build a championship team. I'm no longer interested in going all in and hoping for the best. No more trading away draft picks willy nilly. They need to run from that approach. Get the cap sorted out, make the tough decisions, and take a risk or two. Try something different. Even if it ends in disaster, at least you tried. At this point what do we even have to lose? Lol we won 5 games last season. Bending over backwards and jumping through hoops to win the Offseason Olympics and we didn't even reach mediocrity.

But I think you are dismissing division championships. I understand what you're saying but a division championships mean something. You get banners and T shirts for division ships and it puts you in a better spot in terms of the playoffs. It's a great goal to accomplish. Only two teams are going to the Super Bowl and only one team wins the whole thing so if you can finish the season with the NFC South crown, I don't know, at least you achieved something. .
Division Championships helps you with UFAs!

Honestly, I feel the same about it too. It won’t take much to win our division and I can see us getting a bump with a new coach and there is no way in the world we end up with as many injuries as we had the football gods would never do that 2 years in a row right? I feel the urge to nock on wood or bow to a statue of Barry Sanders or something.
More than 2 years...I'd say the last 5+ years. This is why we have struggled a lot. I'd say as far back as Brees' last 2 seasons up until now, we have been injured at many key/star positions. Hopefully, that will move past us and the team stays healthy.

I'm fairly sure you're referring to the Nussmeiers'...
I don't think CKM will allow Coach Nussmeir to remain OC of the Saints if we draft the QB Nussmeir.

You guys think the hearsay from teammates about DA coddling Carr was bad...
That will be nothing compared to Dad & Son vs the rest of the Saints team division!
Underhill & Triplett will have a field day with this one!

I can already hear all of the "Daddyball" comments!

It's possible that Sam Darnold could be available. Not sure how that would all work out, but yeah, there are options out there.

The questions you have to ask yourself here is, is the upgrade from Derek Carr to Sam Darnold worth the Carr cap hit, Darnold’s salary, and handcuffing yourself financially, along with is going from Carr to Darnold (minus Jefferson) even an upgrade at all.

I follow LSU but kind of casually because my wife went there and I love razzing her about it when they don’t do good so I am for the most part a neutral observer that never misses a game.

That said Nuss is poised for a breakout year this season. You can see it just under the surface. Early on he was too cocky for his own good. He took too many chances and got burned peaking in that Alabama game after that he seemed more poised under pressure and started to learn the valuable lesson of throw it away and live to fight another day (probably one of the hardest things for a QB to learn).

If he can keep his head on right this season there is no reason he shouldn’t blow up like Burrow and Daniels did.

I would love to end up with him in the black and gold if for nothing so I can blame my wife when we loose. Seriously he would be a fine NFL QB I wouldn’t go burning up draft capital to get him but if he fell to wherever we would be picking and we are still needing a QB, I would be completely fine with that pick.

I agree. You could see Nuss on the borderline break through to be extremely good. He would "throw receivers open" and that is an extremely rare commodity in college passing games. The last QB I saw do that in college was Burrow.

Yes, Nuss made several bad plays. But you also have to remember he really didn't have a lot of talent to work with at WR. His best WR was Lacy who was "meh". I don't care what any LSU fan says, Lacy was terribly overrated. He struggled to get open a lot against zones and very rarely found the soft spot. On top of that he struggled with contested catches. Sometimes he would made a great play against a contested catch and sometimes he looked simply looked confused. Nuss, unlike any other QB in this draft projected to go in the first 3 rounds, didn't have a 1st round NFL talent, nor even a 2nd round NFL talent. I think his best reciever who happens to be Lacy would've likely ended up drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. But now it's all guess work due to his legal issues. It's possible he's not drafted till the 6th or worse.

Nuss would've looked much better if he had say T-Mac, Tyler Warren, Matthew Golden or Luther Burden.

FWIW: Doug Nussmeier played at The University of Idaho from 1991-1994, being inducted into the Vandals Hall of Fame in 2007. Returning RB coach, Joel Thomas, played at Idaho from 1994-1999, being inducted into the Vandals Hall of Fame in 2008. I was a ball-boy on the sidelines during those times. Two Idaho Vandals off-set the one main Boise State Bronco, so I'll take it 😉 😆

I’m talking about building a team with division title in the worst division in the league as a ceiling as opposed to it being a natural consequence of competing for a championship. Fixing a couple of things so we can win 10 games and the NFCS as the ceiling, when 6 of those wins come from other mediocre teams in the south, does nothing for me. That is what we’re talking about here. We’re not talking about 15-2 Lions division winners because most people thought they were Super Bowl bound. Nobody thought the Bucs were, not even Bucs fans after winning the division 3 years straight.

I want them building a team that people are talking about as contenders in week one. Not a team that’s estimated to win 9 games.

The Vikings were smart to take on Darnold for what they got him for last year because he was a good fit and was cheap. That is the kind of contract we should have given Carr after he was cut from the Raiders. The next team to sign Darnold will get stuck holding the bag out of desperation to find a QB. I don’t think he’s Baker, he’s still Darnold who happened to fit on a fairly stacked team. What happened to Cousins when he left should be a cautionary tale.

Actually, parents who are coaches of their children, are more hard on their kids.
I have 3 children that all played sports from 5 years old through college.
I coached all 3 at different times & on different levels.
I've been on both sides of this situation.

Some parents are harder on their children & some aren't...
But this isn't the issue. The issue is that having an OC & his son as QB will result in a divided locker room.

i wouldn't be surprised if ML's pitch to KM was, you and Doug come coach the Saints, we'll cut Carr and start Ratter and win a handful of games then draft Nuss JR in 26. Before you think this is too much of a plan, I'd say, you can be well assured that KM is familiar with Nuss Jr, just hearing it from Nuss Sr for the last 2 years straight. Always being aware of his progress, . In other words, this is what the plan is, the more i think about it. That way, KM just has to wait one year to get "his franchise QB." Otherwise, he'd have to sit out a year anyway, waiting on the new coach hiring cycle to begin.
All these non-believers with the, “Meh” reactions. IRL I sell products to mining companies, they keep their inventories stocked and they’ll buy equipment for a plant shut down 5 years from now. Considering the Saints are a billion dollar company, you’d think they would plan as well. I know the draft isn’t 100% predictable. But if you want a top five pick for 2026. Then you cut Carr and start Rattler. If Rattler gives you 12 wins. Then plan aborted. If he doesn’t and you end up in the top 10 again. You’re still within the bubble range to make a move for Nuss. My point is, is that I bet that there are in depth plans like this, that the fans cannot even fathom. It seems perfectly logical to me

Carr will be the quarterback this year. Getting rid of him will slow down the cleanup of the roster and the cap.

I think the goal of this year is to make the team younger, to have building blocks at both units for years to come. Let's be patient and forget the nonsense that we are close.

We have 6 picks in the first 4 rounds. We have to make the most out of them, not thinking about next year but planning for seasons to come.

Time to get the best players we can get, to solidify our lines.

I am not sure that our current draft strategy is working. We need better profiles of the players Moore wants.

All teams have hits and misses, but this time, we need more impact than what we got on early picks like Penning, Ruiz, Turner, Foskey, etc.

I would be totally cool with Cooper Rush.

If I had to bet the house, I would bet that Carr will be cut.

Yeah but with Parker being just a DB/PGC and Staley being the HC My guess is that Moore worked more closely with Staley since Staley called D plays against KM's O

Maybe, but we really don't know and both were only for one year. As I have said, I think Staley likely gets the job because of his experience and specifically play calling experience. He's also the safe pick, but I can't help but hope for a younger coach with more upside. I think Staley is a solid DC, and I like the scheme, but I don't think he's a great DC.

The fact that it is taking this long makes me think it's at least possible that they take the risk on a younger guy.
