Draft at least two O-Linemen earlyish (1 Viewer)

We had 14 (or something like that) top 100 picks the past 5 years. Maybe we should’ve not done all of that trading away or drafted better. Just a thought.
OK they had 15 1st and 2nd rnd picks since 2019 including a #2 , #3 and a #7 . The highest we had was #11 and #14 all the rest were late 1st or 2nd. My point is that it's much easier to have hits when you draft that high and that amount

Yes the higher the pick, theoretically the better the player. However, I will always point to 2020 draft. We had our chances to draft a franchise QB, in Jordan Love or Jalen Hurts. We knew, at that point, Drew was on a year to year basis, and that was probably his last year. What did we do? Drafted a Center for the 2nd year in a row. Let’s face it, our drafting has had moments of being drunk. Like what are we doing?

We need guard help bad. Watching this GB interior dominate our guys is painful.

Can Will Campbell play guard? Is he a better guard than tackle? He could offer good flexibility to play tackle also.

If not this is a good guard class with guys out of Georgia, TAMU, Cinci

We needs guys that are over 320 lbs but can move.
As an LSU fan Will Campbell and that other LSU tackle are trash. I don't know know why they are ranked that high tbh.

Then we should draft WR, DT, S, TE in that order….ugh

I know OL is a need, but we have plenty of others, you draft BPA, reaching for OL (or any position) typically doesn’t work out well…..

To me there are only 4 really franchise QB in the league , Mahomes, Allen Jackson and Burrow, everyone else is 2nd and 3rd tier. Hurts is 2nd and Love low 2nd. Love has a lower QBR than Carr.

In 18 we went 13-3 and got robbed of a SB
In 19 we went 13-3 and because Williams had a brain fart we lost to Min.
in 20 we went 12-4 and had Jared Cook not fumbled we could have very well won that game
In 18 or 19 why was it not reasonable to think we were maybe a player or 2 away from another SB? Had we invested in a QB @ 24 this board would have erupted and remember we didn't have a 2nd rnd pick to take Hurts and even if we did it would have been after Hurts was picked

The problem was not so much us not drafting DB's replacement it was SP leaving right after Drew retired and ML listening to SP when he recommended DA take the job

They are not trash but I think they are overrated. LSU's OL problems are mostly interior OL especially @ C , which is the only guy coming back LOL

Bad philosophy targeting a specific position going in should always be BPA it's all gonna depend on their big board...
I said early ish. Could be third round where we have two picks or 4th where we have two. Just not super late

No 2nd rd pick, means you take Hurts with your 1st rd pick. Drew would’ve been the best mentor for him in his last season. You go into 2021, with Hurts’ running ability, which SP would’ve been giddy about, since he was lining TH7 in on packages. We could’ve been a power running team, until Jalen found his groove as a passer. Plus, with Jalen’s ability with his legs, he could evade protection breakdowns.

Also, the Eagles view Jalen as their franchise QB. Same with the Packers and Love. If you want to put them in tiers, then that’s fine. Tier two franchise QBs is still a good thing bc they lead their teams to victories and that’s what matters

Hurts nor Jackson is SP's kind of QB evidenced by who he picked this yr and who he let go last yr. I think SP had planned to step down soon after DB left and all the injuries and Covid in 2020 made him have enough
If you remember Hurts and Love were not good in their 1st starts

Yeah, not trash, just off year and a QB that held the ball too long.

Campbell started pretty much every game since he was a freshman. Guys who suck don't do that. He gets praised on how good his technique is. Just wait till he gets to the NFL and coached up by the NFL guys.

The fact that SP knew 2020 was Drew’s last year, he should’ve drafted a QB. QB is the most important position. Seems like any other team in the league would’ve drafted a QB. So, even if SP had the notion that he was tied to Drew, he still should’ve got us a guy for his eventual exit. So, that goes back to my original post……it seems like our drafting was drunk. No way in heck, should a team draft a Center, who performed greatly, then want to move that player to Guard, and draft another Center the following year, when your all time best player, a QB, is retiring. It made zero sense then, and it doesn’t make sense now. Didn’t even have to be Jalen Hurts. You mentioned Hurts is not the kind of QB that SP desires. Well, Jordan Love was taken a couple of spots after Ruiz. Was Love not an SP type QB?
Also, to touch on something you said previously. Hurts has made it to a Super Bowl and if it wasn’t for his untimely fumble, he most likely would’ve won that Super Bowl. So Hurts should be in your tier 1 of franchise QBs. Allen hasn’t made a Super Bowl and the same for Lamar Jackson. Out of the guys you mentioned, only Mahomes and Burrow can say that they have reached the big dance. You draft a QB, with the hopes that they can lead your team to a Super Bowl. Maybe Allen and Jackson are tier 2 and Mahomes/Burrow/Hurts are tier 1?!?!

Not looking to argue the point you guys are making, but was it because Drew didn't retire when expected, meaning Brady didn't come to NO, that basically borked the succession plan SP wanted in place? I may have all the timing wrong, though.

TB12 signed with TB in March of 2020. The NFL draft was in April of 2020. Drew announced his return for his final season in February of 2020. That right there, should have alerted SP and the FO, to get a QB. Especially if SP knew he was coming back the following year.

Thanks, I think they didn't have a plan beyond Drew, then, once Brady was off the table.

It ties in with the 'all in' philosophy they ran with throughout the Loomis/SP era. Why draft for later when you want to win now? Of course, we can see what that's subsequently cost the franchise.
