Elon Musk makes $43 Billion offer for private buyout of Twitter (5 Viewers)

I have never read a thing he's posted so you're going to have to give me those examples.
He’s tweeted memes or things like “interesting”, “facts”, or “there seems to be more to this story” about subjects like Great Replacement Theory, Pizzagate, and a bunch of other lies & conspiracy theories.

He used Twitter to recommend & vouch for 2 reporters/accounts for their coverage of the Israel-Hamas war. Those accounts were found to be spreading false information, using AI generated images, and using hateful speech.

He usually ends up deleting the tweets, but there are countless examples out there.

don't forget the anti Semitic conspiracy theories.

If the dance gets any more intense
Labour is blossoming or dancing where
The body is not bruised to pleasure soul,
Nor beauty born out of its own despair,
Nor blear-eyed wisdom out of midnight oil.
O chestnut tree, great rooted blossomer,
Are you the leaf, the blossom or the bole?
O body swayed to music, O brightening glance,
How can we know the dancer from the dance?

Is that from Footloose?

No specific link, but the groups/people who I follow have all reported losing 100's of followers in the past 24 hours. I have lost nearly 500 on one project that I work on.
The project in question had just over 15K followers prior to the election and was following ~11K
The project now has just over 8K followers and the following is just below 9K
Followers lost ~46%
Following lost ~21%

It's been a week and these accounts were not politically associated, they were business-centric.

UPDATE: I did locate a couple of articles discussing the exodus (and Bluesky's rise) but none with hard data and all with too much political wrapping paper.

Below is an article talking about how Blue Sky is now the #1 download in the Apple App Store and Threads is #2. It occurs to me as I mentioned in another thread that before Twitter is done or mostly done, one of Blue Sky or Threads is going to have to establish itself as the clear alternative to Twitter. Otherwise the split in accounts between the two is going to make it difficult for people to get the engagement and content they want from either one. I think Twitter holds on as long as no other App establishes itself as the clearly best alternative. Until that happens I think Twitter will chug along as Elon's personal play toy that makes no money because advertisers don't like the lack of content moderation.

Warning: The article contains some statements that some might consider political in nature so read at you own risk. Mods please feel free to delete if you feel it crosses the line. I don't think it does, but I'm honestly not exactly sure where the line is anymore.

I just activated my BlueSky account since a handful of X folks moved over ( and stopped posting altogether on X )

looks very similar, so transition is really easy.

I have Threads as well, and for sake of "similarity" BlueSky is much closer to the original Twitter than Threads.

Yeah the place most mentioned by people I follow when they migrate is BlueSky. But I know Threads is the choice of many. I really just want sports, hurricane, movies/TV show, and video game content with the occasional as even handed as possible news stories. And I want all of that to not come with Elon Blue Check sycophants dominating the discourse. But with people split up between apps it's hard to figure what is the best option. I guess I could just try both with them being free and all. But it seems like a lot of effort though it's probably just more that I'm comfortable using Twitter.

Edit: Just found Nick Underhill on BlueSky. Doesn't appear he posts there much but he has an account. But still most of his stuff is on Twitter. But, Nick did say recently that his is likely going to do less on Twitter because he finds it too toxic. Problem is I usually count on his Twitter posts to drive me to his new articles on his site.

The Guardian has announced it will no longer post content on Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, from its official accounts. In an announcement to readers, the news organisation said it considered the benefits of being on the platform formerly called Twitter were now outweighed by the negatives, citing the “often disturbing content” found on it.

“We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X,” the Guardian said.

The Guardian has more than 80 accounts on X with approximately 27 million followers.

The Guardian said content on the platform about which it had longstanding concerns included far-right conspiracy theories and racism. It added that the site’s coverage of the US presidential election had crystallised its decision. “This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism,” it said.

It added: “The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.”

i was hesitant but when 3 of the main accounts i follow completely stopped posting on X, i moved.

Most of the folks i follow for news- Aaron Rupar, Ron Filipowski and ACYN - use an "aggregator" to post to all 3 platforms so i get that info they post.

I think if many simply "cold turkey quit" X, the migration would speed up.

Ive been piddlin around in there, getting my lists/follows right so my "discover algo" wont be too messy lolol

Just saw this post from Nick Underhill from a few days ago on BlueSky that I think encapsulates the Twitter experience right now:

Edit: One issue is I can't figure out how to embed posts from BlueSky. But that could be a me issue.
Yeah, the other sites will give you multiple format options for linking. This one doesn't. I would think the developer for the software here would need to change the coding to allow for a link thumbnail or description for that format. Not sure whether Andrus can get them to do it.

@Andrus
