ESPN’s Mel Kiper mocks Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart to Saints at #9 (19 Viewers)

I'd pay the cost for Ward or take Sanders in the top 10 long before I would take Dart at #9 and I don't want to do either of those things either. Always beware of the late riser QBs. He's got Mitchell Trubisky written all over him.

His game is nothing like Mitchell Trubisky. More like Bo Nix with a slight Baker Mayfield style of running.

For over 2 months I've been thinking Dart would slip into the top 10. This isn't surprising to me. If Kellen Moore thinks that Dart's his guy, I'm all for it. It's very important that HC and QB can sync up mentality and work together as flawlessly as possible. Two different bodies operating as one mind is perhaps a better way of thinking of it. The QB should be an extension of the head coach/play caller.

The rumors that the Saints have Ward as a 1st roud pick are likely true. Saints have a benchmark for QB's...it's been more defined since Ireland took over and it's based on Bill Parcells model.

1. Must be a 3 year starter
2. Must be a college senior
3. Must graduate from College
4. Must start at least 30 games.
5. Must score 2 TD's for every INT thrown
6. Must complete at least 60% of passes thrown.
7. Must win at least 23 games.

I'll let you all figure out which QB's fit the above criteria cleanly.

Dart and Ward.

The last time the Saints had an opportunity to draft that high was 2017. They wanted Mahomes, and were going to to take him but the Chiefs moved up and the rest is history. The was roughly 8 years ago. There's no telling when we'll be picking 9 again, if a QB is there that you love....you take him or move up for him. Nobody remembers how much the Chiefs payed to move up to 8...they just know they currently have Mahomes and are perennial SB contenders.

No price is too large to pay if you think a guy can solidify you for the next 10 years at the most position in football.
Wait I just went back in time to see what the draft gurus said about Mahomes. Check out this gem.

Player Comparison: Derek Carr/Jay Cutler. There are a lot of comparisons for Mahomes. On NFL Network, they consistently compare Mahomes to Cutler because they are both big-armed gunslingers who have decision-making issues.

Others have compared Mahomes to Johnny Manziel, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. I can definitely see the comparison to that trio because Mahomes is like them with the ability to ad lib. All of them would take a play with nothing open, move around, and then make a big throw downfield. They also can throw from a variety of platforms. Like Rodgers and Favre, Mahomes has a big arm.

I have heard some scouts compare Mahomes to Carr, and there are a lot of similarities between the two. They both have powerful arms, mobility, accuracy and toughness. Carr also came from a college spread offense at Fresno State similar to the one that Mahomes ran at Texas Tech. Like Carr, Mahomes also grew up with pro athletes in the family. I could see Mahomes being an NFL quarterback comparable to Carr. So much of whether Mahomes pans out, however, will be determined by the team and coaching staff that drafts him. He also will have to work hard to learn his NFL offense coming from a college gimmick offense that won’t correlate well to the pros. Carr was able to overcome that issue, and the question is if Mahomes has that ability.

I'm going to puke LMAO.

I’m highly convinced that if there any other QB, not named Sheduer Sanders, who threw for 4100K yards, 74% completion, and 37 TDs vs 10 INTs, then everyone would want to sell the farm for him. Look, I’ll admit that his attitude/bravado is off putting to a lot of people, but to say he’s not worth a top 20 pick is ridiculous. Give me a guy with his level of confidence, along with his accuracy, and pocket presence

Sanders is trash and shouldn't be touched in the first round. He was a big reason they lost the bowl game against BYU after being gifted a rank that his team didn't deserve.

I didn't say it was. I'm just saying he's a late riser where teams convince themselves that he's going to be good because the need to draft a QB.

That's not why he's a late riser. He was unknown to fans because Ole Miss was never in the news nor was the media talking about him. Professionals have been watching him, and at the senior bowl journalists caught wind of how high coaches think of him as a QB who have had him high the whole time.

Only malleable people who are easily influenced by news and gossip had him low. Just like only malleable people who are easily influenced by news and gossip have Sanders high. It's not a coincidence that journalists have been calling for him to slip out of the first round after catching wind of how many teams don't even have a first round grade on him.

where that gets confusing though is there are only roughly 12 players with first round grades, which means if he gets taken around 15 in the first round, he's still considered a second round talent on boards.

I like Dart, but I think we could trade back and still get him at 13-15, and get some extra picks.
