Fire Dennis Allen!! (1 Viewer)

That said, both Peyton and Eli went to the teams that drafted them
That was only after Eli forced the Chargers' hand to trade him to NYG. He was originally slated to go to San Diego.

If they wait until after the season to fire DA, it will probably keep us from getting the best prospective coaches. But I expect nothing else with this bunch. CSP and Brees saved ML by covering up all the dysfunction in the front office for 14 years. Since they have been gone, ML is not looking like the genius we thought he was. ML is being exposed.
Yep, they’ll do like when Payton left. Wait 2 weeks, go on vacation, then start a sham coaching search and pick the loser for continuity.

Carr's salary is backended which complicates a rebuild enormously. We can't get out of his contract as it was designed to create salary cap space in the present.

If we wanted an out. We can't move him. He already has a voidcut dead cap salary at $22 million.
If rattler works out, I’d bench Carr salary or not and if he or anyone wanted to trade for him, get what you can. If not, expensive backup.

You would have to attach a pick to trade him is the probable reality that happens

You keep him through next year. Have him work with Rattler and Haener and if they don't work out Carr is still the starter and we draft someone either this offseason or next. He's still going to be cheaper than just about any veteran starter at that point.

And to be sure, the FO was operating with a win now mentality and with all of the injures, the calculated risk of being thin in terms of depth has bit them. There's not anything they can do about it now if they start a rebuild. There's no putting thr toothpaste back in the bottle. Gotta work with what you have until you right the ship.

If Allen is still the coach at that time, sure, but a new coach and new outlook would be interesting.

That said, both Peyton and Eli went to the teams that drafted them, so Arch will probably go wherever he's drafted. If the Saints happen to need a QB and can draft him where he should be, then I don't see anything preventing that from happening.
Um…Eli was drafted by San Diego and then traded to the Giants after they drafted Rivers.

Rough looking back at that draft if you’re a Chargers fan. They had one future Super Bowl winning quarterback on the roster, and drafted another, but then traded that one for a quarterback that never won sheet, when another future Super Bowl winning quarterback (Roethlisberger) was still in the board.

While you're technically correct, the Chargers traded him to the Giants later the same day. Eli had already told the Chargers not to draft him, so they ignored him and drafted/traded him.

And yeah, the Chargers history with QBs is quite something else. Lol.

I don't think people realize how outside the norm that is. Arch may be the top pick, he also may be a lower round pick. We won't know for sure until he proves it on the field. If he's not a first rounder, he's not really gonna have any leverage in determining where he gets to go until his rookie contract is done.

Based off this year I don't think he deserve to be fired, way to many injuries in key positions and the hits just keep coming. When the team was fully healthy we went 2-0 to start and then the injuries started. As far as the defense goes I think he earned another chance with some younger talent, the guys here are just to old now. And this is coming from a guy who wants him and Carr gone. But based off this it's not deserved

Injuries are an excuse. Bad coaching was responsible for the losses to both the Eagles and the Falcons. DA cannot finish games.

After thinking on this a little bit. I don't think DA should be fired yet. Not even in the off season actually. But that is contingent on Loomis getting the cap in order during the off season. And I mean really getting it in order. Doing everything we can to get the most 2026 picks we can get and eating as much dead cap as we can. A full rebuild with a lame duck coach.

In reality, no coach worth anything is going to want the job in 2025 the way it's set up now. But if we're cleaned up enough and have enough picks to allow the coach to mold the team to what they want in 2026, we might actually get a decent one.

This is what we thought when Allen took over the job... they would get the cap situated in 2 or 3 years and Allen would be given a pass of the first couple of seasons with the real test starting this year. Instead they chose Deshuan Watson.

How did they choose Watson? Maybe they were playing the game to drive up the price for Atlanta and ultimately Cleveland?
